On Thursday, far-left state Rep. Matthew McQueen (D-Santa Fe) shared a screenshot of a tweet from Piñon Post editor and state representative candidate John Block, claiming his assertions about abortion were untrue.
Block wrote regarding Democrat Gov. Lujan Grisham’s discussion with Kamala Harris during her trip to New Mexico, “That one in the middle is FULL-TERM abortionist Eve Espey, who oversees infanticide at UNM Hospital. She trains future abortionists on how to kill babies up to and AFTER birth,” referring to the woman in the middle of the picture.

The Republican Party of New Mexico retweeted the post, which spurred McQueen to angrily tweet, “This is obviously a lie, and it’s as dangerous as it is disgusting. The fact that the New Mexico Republican Party would promote this trash is a testament to how low they’ve sunk.”
However, he was quickly fact-checked by Block, who brought receipts with him, including evidence from the official U.S. House of Representatives report showing that babies were, indeed, born alive and left to die at UNM Hospital.
The report notes how Espey was asked in a deposition, “I’m trying to understand if any of the doctors that were on the fellows program that . . . went to Southwestern Women’s Options, or any of the doctors from the University of New Mexico that were on a fill-in rotation at Planned Parenthood, or any of the doctors at the University of New Mexico reproductive health center, or any of the doctors at the University Hospital ever told you, reported to you, or discussed with you, that an abortion failed and a live birth resulted?”
She responded by acknowledging that babies were born alive and left to die at UNM Hospital, saying, “There are situations in the hospital where a planned abortion, an induction of labor for a fetus, for example, with severe anomalies is born alive.”
When pressed on what procedures existed to deal with children being born alive and left to die at the hospital, Espey answered “No” to such policies existing, adding, “OB/GYN doctors do not resuscitate neonates.”
Congress referred the evidence to the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office, which has not acted upon it for prosecution.
.@mcqueenfornm: maybe grow a spine & tag me next time.
Lujan Grisham is proudly endorsed by Espey, a notorious late-term abortionist who specializes in training future abortionists to kill babies up to and after birth.
In 2021, far-left Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a radical law stripping all protections from women, babies, and healthcare professionals, legalizing dangerous, unregulated abortion up to birth in New Mexico.
But now, Lujan Grisham is working to go even a step further — “codifying” abortion up to birth into state law.
The Albuquerque NPR affiliate KUNM’s Nash Jones asked Lujan Grisham, “While you repealed a dormant ban last year, a right to an abortion has not been further codified in state law. Will you pursue that if you’re reelected?”
She replied, “Absolutely. And I’ve made clear that the reason abortion is safe and legal in New Mexico is because I’m the governor…. New Mexico will continue to be a place that supports women’s health in all aspects and be a beacon for women all across the country.”
The news comes as Kamala Harris is expected to visit New Mexico on Tuesday, October 25 to campaign for Lujan Grisham while also promoting abortion up to birth policies.
Harris will “participate in a moderated conversation on protecting reproductive rights (abortion),” according to her office’s press announcement.
The former California senator officiated Lujan Grisham’s lavish wedding in Washington, D.C., earlier this year while much of the state was plagued with forest fires.
Lujan Grisham is a rabid proponent of unlimited abortions, even holding a rally in Las Cruces last Saturday, where she danced alongside other pro-abortion leaders to gleefully promote abortion.
She has also pledged $10 million in state taxpayers’ money to open a new abortion mill in Las Cruces if she is re-elected.
Over the weekend, far-left pro-abortion up-to-birth Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham held a rally with pro-abortion leaders from the unlimited abortion groups NARAL and Planned Parenthood. At the rally, she was joined by the pro-abortion national figures, as well as state legislators and city councilors who also share the governor’s stance on abortion up to birth.
There was a massive counter-protest of at least 250 people who encircled the park where the pro-abortion Democrats promoted their candidacy for the upcoming November 8 election.
While at the rally, the Democrats, including Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver, danced on stage and joyously supported killing children in the womb. Lujan Grisham, who recently had her knee operated on out-of-state, hopped along with the dancing liberals who gleefully rejoiced the thought of more pro-abortion leadership after the election.
The video went viral online, with the large pro-life news site Life News sharing the video. It has already garnered over 20,000 views on Twitter.
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Grisham dances at an abortion rally to celebrate killing babies.
CPAC shared the video on Twitter, writing, “Democrats and New Mexico Governor dancing at an abortion rally. Murdering innocent babies should NOT be celebrated.”

The pro-life group Students for Life of America shared the clip also, writing, “New Mexico Gov. Grisham was seen dancing with the CEO of Planned Parenthood and President of NARAL at an abortion rally.”
New Mexicans who responded to the original clip did not hold back either, with one writing about the dancing, “Although I’m not a person of faith, I’m not ruling out demonic possession.”
Another wrote, “If only they could see themselves through the eyes of God.”
One person wrote, “Dead babies don’t dance. Fire MLG!”
On November 8, Lujan Grisham faces Republican Mark Ronchetti, who is neck-and-neck with her in the polls. Third-party Libertarian candidate Karen Bedonie is also running.
On Saturday, the leaders of two large national pro-abortion groups, Alexis McGill Johnson of Planned Parenthood and Mini Timmaraju of NARAL, stumped in Las Cruces to promote Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
Lujan Grisham almost exclusively is running her campaign on the abortion issue, erroneously claiming her GOP opponent Mark Ronchetti is an “extremist” who wants to ban abortion. This rhetoric comes as the governor is a supporter of unregulated abortion up-to-birth with no exceptions, as evidenced in a 2021 law she signed stripping all protections for women, medical professionals, and babies in the womb.
The rally, held at Albert Johnson Park, included attendees such as Democrat Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver, Democrat Las Cruces City Councilor Johana Bencomo, scandal-ridden Democrat congressional candidate Gabe Vasquez, state representatives, and others.
As well as rallying, the pro-abortion figures both visited the Las Cruces Planned Parenthood abortion mill and met with state legislators, including state Reps. Joanne Ferrary and Nathan Small (D-Doña Ana), state Sens. Carrie Hamblen and William Soules (D-Doña Ana).
What a bunch of sickos. Who dances that happy at an abortion rally?? And if she got medical treatment in D.C. why is she still hopping on one leg to baby the knee. Something's up. pic.twitter.com/p2azWSeIeq
According to Mark Cavaliere of the pro-life group Southwest Coalition for Life, over 200 pro-lifers “completely encircled the governor’s abortion rally in Las Cruces,” where they held signs and prayed while the pro-abortion supporters rallied.
Videos show the pro-lifers praying rosaries, carrying crosses, and holding signs with messages such as “Save the Innocent” and “Pray to End Abortion.” Cavaliere says that people came from Albuquerque, Belen, Los Lunas, Rio Rancho, Ruidoso, El Paso, and other places to protest the governor’s anti-life rally.
While Democrats attempt to escape total annihilation by betting on abortion in November, New Mexicans are more interested in candidates who will address inflation, the economy, gas prices, public safety, and other issues. Despite that, leftists are hoping abortion up-to-birth will bring them a victory on Election Day.
On Thursday, the Clovis City Council convened a special meeting to vote on proceeding to pass an ordinance banning abortion in the county seat of Curry County.
The proposed ordinance reads, “(2) The state constitution of New Mexico dims not and cannot secure a right, privilege or immunity to act in violation of federal statutes such as 18 U.S.C. § 1461-62, or to engage in criminal and racketeering conduct as defined by federal law. (3) The members of the City Commission are bound by oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the statutory provisions codified at 18 U.S.C. § 1461-62 are the ‘supreme Law of the Land’ under Amide VI of the Constitution and must be obeyed and respected by every person within the city of Clovis and by every judge the state of New Mexico. Ste U.S. Corot. art. VI (‘[T]he Laws of the United Status… Mall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any Mate to the Contrary notwithstanding’).”
According to pro-life advocate Mark Lee Dickson, who was in attendance at the meeting, “about 300 people showed up.”
He wrote, “After much debate, and overwhelming support from those in attendance, the City Commission voted 6-0 in support of introducing the ‘Ordinance Requiring Abortion Providers In the City of Clovis to Comply with Federal Law.’”
“Pro-life America, STAND UNITED WITH THE CITY OF CLOVIS! Pro-life America, stand united with the Clovis, New Mexico City Commission!”
The measure was brought forward by Commissioners David Bryant of District 3.
He said, “I think it’s time we move [the resolution] forward.”
Mayor Mike Morris said in his remarks, “You, by and large, are a pro-life community, so I have a certain responsibility, to the greatest extent possible, to represent you accurately, correct? So… it’s from those positions that I hold I was motivated to begin researching what is possible because the elephant in the room, or maybe it’s not the elephant in the room, it’s the obvious thing to everyone, is that we live in a state that seems to have decided… and the debate is over. Well, I’d like to say that maybe the debate isn’t over.”
The final vote to proceed was passed unanimously 6-0, with two commissioners not in attendance, although they were supportive.
Pro-life attorney Mike Seibel, who also attended and spoke at the meeting, wrote, “The council attempted to table the ordinance and delay it from publication, a determined crowd fought back. I got up and spoke and threatened to send women hurt by abortion to their offices. Mark Lee Dickson did a good job playing ‘good cop.’ Other people demanded it go [forward].
Now the ordinance will move forward to be published twice and proceed for a final vote in the coming weeks, according to Dickson.
On Wednesday night, Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Republican nominee Mark Ronchetti met on KOAT 7 for the second gubernatorial debate, moderated by the station’s Doug Fernandez. KOAT’s Kelly Ribando, the Albuquerque Journal’s Dan Boyd, and KKOB radio’s Bob Clark as panelists.
During the fiery debate, the two candidates presented their plans for New Mexico — the current one or a new vision for the state.
While Ronchetti continued speaking about kitchen table issues, such as violent crime, with New Mexico being the second most violent state in the nation, and fixing the stagnant economy, Lujan Grisham couldn’t shake her obsession with talking about abortion.
In her opening statement, she erroneously claimed, “My opponent wants to ban abortion,” despite Ronchetti wanting a constitutional amendment to decide the issue, as he has previously stated. Lujan Grisham continued, “As governor, I promise to protect your privacy protections and to expand access to reproductive health care (abortions) for women and their families.”
Continuing on abortion, Lujan Grisham reaffirmed that she supports abortion up to birth with absolutely no restrictions whatsoever.
“Abortion is legal in New Mexico because I’m governor today. Brett Kavanaugh — I’m sure that name is very familiar to most voters and New Mexicans. Here is someone who said anything to get the position but did quite another when he actually got the position. That is the republican playbook when it comes to abortion,” she claimed, despite Kavanaugh not saying anything of the sort on abortion. As a judge, he could not make determinations on hypothetical cases.
She then claimed, “Mark Ronchetti wants to ban abortion. If you don’t believe me, ask his pastor.”
Ronchetti said, “I don’t think an incumbent governor in this country has ever based their whole campaign on a lie,” adding, “But you and your D.C. allies will say anything to retain your seat as governor of the state of New Mexico. You will say anything you have to, and you’re hoping that people don’t know. But the reality of the situation is I’ve been very clear: I am pro-life. But also, this is a very personal issue. There’s no doubt about that.”
“And this governor has a position, too, and it’s the extreme in this race. She believes in abortion up to birth. That view is shared by countries like North Korea and China. And if you look at where we are in a broad sense, the values of the people of the state of New Mexico have to be taken into account in this issue.”
Regarding the border crisis, Ronchetti said, “Joe Biden and Michelle Lujan Grisham have an absolute border chaos policy,” saying he will carry out his plan to secure New Mexico’s border by forming a border strike force and working with neighboring states.
Lujan Grisham, with little to show for her four years as governor, responded, “Well, this is just political theater and it’s not true. And when you say you’re going to use the Department of Public Safety, what he’s saying is he’s going to take State Police officers right out of Albuquerque and move them to Deming.” In 2018, Lujan Grisham demeaned voters in Deming, which was taken as a jab at rural New Mexico. She added, “And by the way, fentanyl gets mailed in from China, as well as at the border.”
“That was a blizzard of excuses for not caring about what happens at the border. Let’s go back to that fentanyl bust in the South Valley, where there were a million fentanyl pills that were taken in by the FBI. It was the biggest FBI bust in their history,” adding, “Her answer to this whole problem shows how truly out of touch she truly is.”
When Ronchetti pressed Lujan Grisham on crime and her release of countless violent criminals, she claimed, “What is shocking is my opponent’s description of facts that are factless.”
On the issue of health care, Ronchetti said he will overturn bad Democrat legislation that is deterring medical professionals from staying and coming to New Mexico.
Lujan Grisham’s answer was, “Well, we’ve got someone who wants to be governor who doesn’t give a damn about patients and their rights, and I do,” apparently again referring to abortion.
Boyd asked Lujan Grisham the next question, inquiring, “During the #MeToo movement, your campaign settled a complaint with a former campaign spokesman who accused you of sexual mistreatment. Why would you insist you did nothing wrong but still have paid him?”
Lujan Grisham dodged the question to instead talk about her favorite topic — abortion. She said, “Well, these are really, uh, a continuation of the Mark Ronchetti campaign, uh, working diligently on baseless, and frankly, uh, dev- uh, desperate character attacks. You know, we did a couple of things that nobody does. We provided absolute disclosure about this issue and provided that information directly to individuals. We did that because that’s been the issue of our entire government, to be transparent. We’re the first administration to be transparent about every single expense. No other governor has done that. You’ve seen the baseless, false attacks that Mark Ronchetti and his campaign have run against us consistently because these are all desperate efforts to hide the fact that he has no plan, that he has no experience, uh, he’s a T.V. personality. And frankly, when he says he wants to give a choice, look Mark Ronchetti: You’re not invited into the room with me and my gynecologist. Women already have this choice. When you’re talking about the constitution, you’re inviting a resolution to change the constitution. When you’re doing that, you’re doing that solely to reduce my rights. I know that you’re trying to make this sound like somehow it’s balanced. It absolutely isn’t. And having a clinic in Las Cruces is contraceptive care. It’s reproductive health care for women and their families. It’s comprehensive primary care. You’re so concerned about healthcare access, explain to me why you don’t want a clinic for women anywhere in the state.”
When speaking about education and fixing the failed Democrat policies of the current administration, Ronchetti outlined his plan for a voucher system, to expand charter schools, and to remove the racist Critical Race Theory social studies policies of the current administration. Lujan Grisham, of course, pivoted to abortion, mentioning abortion and sex ed programs.
In a portion of the debate where candidates could ask each other questions, Ronchetti said to Lujan Grisham, “Governor, I want to ask you about James Hallinan He was one of your staffers in your last election. And you were in a meeting with him, and you grabbed his crotch, and you said, ‘Is there anything down here?’ Governor, you then had him sign a non-disclosure agreement, so he kept his mouth shut. You then, about two months later, signed a law in New Mexico outlawing those agreements, further allowing people who were the victims of these type[s] of events to be able to talk. Why shouldn’t your victim be able to talk?
Lujan Grisham responded, “Uh, Mark. Again, you have spent your entire campaign attacking my character and my integrity. They are baseless attacks, and you do that including now to hide from the fact that, again, you’re a T.V. personality with no experience.” She continued, “The only thing you actually have a plan for is to ban abortion in the state of New Mexico.”
Lujan Grisham’s question for Ronchetti was, “What is misoprostol?” referring to the drug used in chemical abortions to forcibly eject a baby from its mother’s womb.
He responded, “Here we go again. This is what 25 years in government gets you. This gets you a governor who wants to play Jeopardy!’” Ronchetti added, “People have had enough of the political games. It’s garbage at this point. And you’ve said you’ve been more transparent than any governor in history. Governor, you grabbed a male staffer’s crotch — a gay male — and then you said, ‘Is there anything down there?’ You then paid him $150,000, governor, and then you made him shut up about it. And now, you have the gall to sit up here and not only victimize James Hallinan, but you revictimize him. If you remember back, you said during the Andrew Cuomo scandal if you don’t believe those who go and bring these charges, then you’re revictimizing. So, you’re victimizing, revictimizing, and now — on topper of all toppers — you’re creating yourself as the victim. Governor, this is the sort of thing that people cannot stand. You’ve never come clean. You’ve never said, ‘Look, I made a mistake. Here we go.’ You’ve just continued to lie about this issue time after time after time. And let me tell you about experience. Experience, especially the experience we need in this office, is someone with character. Someone who has been in tough situations and doesn’t lie about them, doesn’t belittle people, and doesn’t try to shrink other people to make themselves feel better. You, on a regular basis, do that in every single way. You shut down stores, and then you go jewelry shopping. You shut down our ability to see our families, and then you hold parties. And then you keep our kids out of school, and you roll up to Navajo Lake, and you have a party with your friends while we’re on lockdown. You are a hypocrite, governor.”
.@Michelle4NM, you grabbed a male staffer's crotch then said "is there anything down there," and then you then paid him $150,000 to shut up about it.
You have the gall to revictimize your victim, even though you've said we should believe all victims. Disgusting. pic.twitter.com/qdWRN2Cm49
Using her final rebuttal opportunity, Lujan Grisham claimed Ronchetti’s answer was a “blizzard of nonsense, right? It’s one character attack. If I was doing anything that was a violation of the COVID rules, you would have a photo of that. I religiously did that,” she claimed.
On an energy question from Bob Clark, Ronchetti blasted Lujan Grisham’s “California energy policy” through the Green New Deal (Energy Transition Act of 2019), which forced the closure of the San Juan Generating Station. He also noted how the governor proposed a bill to raise gas prices $0.35 to $0.50 a gallon through an enviro-Marxist policy.
“I take exception, Bob, that you say that the ETA led to the closure of the San Juan coal fire plant and generating station. That’s just not true.” She then claimed that New Mexico needs the “strongest, toughest standards” to punish the coal and oil and gas industries.
In his closing statement, Ronchetti asked New Mexicans if they want high crime, failing schools, or one that is a “great story for our future?”
Lujan Grisham, of course, pivoted back to abortion in her closing statement, saying you can vote for her “or believe someone whose only agenda, only policy, quite frankly, is to ban abortion and interfere with my private health care decisions.”
Early voting has already started in New Mexico, with expanded voting locations opening on October 22. Election day is November 8th. Ronchetti (R), Lujan Grisham (D), and Karen Bedonie (L) all will be on the ballot.
On Monday, following a rhetoric-filled press release from the Democrat Party of New Mexico (DPNM) attacking the pro-life group, Abortion Free New Mexico, the group’s founders, Bud and Tara Shaver, had their attorney write a letter to DPNM demanding a retraction.
The press release labeled the Shavers as “fanatical extremists” with “ties to domestic terrorism,” among other accusations to belittle the pro-life group, which had a fundraiser with Republican nominee for Congress in the Third Congressional District, Michelle Garcia Holmes.
DPNM also accused the group of sending out “ illegal mailers to Albuquerque voters” and promoting “doctored imagery on a large truck,” among other untruths.
Democrat Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Jessica Velasquez claimed, “The New Mexican Republican Party has an open door policy for fanatical extremists, like Bud and Tara Shaver. Michelle Garcia Holmes consistently aligns herself with the most dangerous MAGA zealots in Republican Party and if elected, she promises to ban all abortions nationwide, without exception for rape or incest.”
Abortion Free New Mexico wrote in a press release of its own, “Never in our pro-life missionary journey have we ever condoned violence of any kind, in fact, we are working to end the ultimate violent act that leads to the exploitation of women through abortion.”
“The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) are the extremists because they support abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, even when babies could survive outside the womb. According to a recent poll released by the Associated Press, 80% of Americans oppose late term abortions. The fact that New Mexico is the late term abortion capital, is a hard truth that New Mexicans must grasp when considering who to cast their vote for this November,” wrote the group.
The Shavers’ attorney, Angelo Artus, wrote in a statement, “By publishing false statements of fact either knowing them to be false or in reckless disregard for whether they are true or false, you have exposed yourself and New Mexico Democrats.org to potential legal action. On behalf of the Shavers, I demand that you and New Mexico Democrats.org print and publish an immediate retraction of these falsehoods.”
Artus also argued that the mailers accused of being “illegal” were “a constitutionally protected” act of free speech, while the claim of “doctored” imagery was shot down by explaining the true and undoctored images were “the very real consequences of abortion.”
The Shavers added, “We love and value pregnant women from all walks of life and desire to protect them and their pre-born children. We will never waver from proclaiming the truth about the atrocity of abortion and will always stand up for the, ‘least of these’ among us. Our prayers go out to those who support abortion and we hope that those especially in Democrat Party of New Mexico would come to conversion and see how beautiful the gift of life truly is.”
In an op-ed published in The Hill Saturday, far-left lame duck New Mexico House Speaker Brian Egolf (D-Santa Fe), who is retiring after his current term, and Michigan House minority leader Donna Lasinski (D) teamed up to demand voters support pro-abortion candidates or else.
Egolf touted New Mexico’s 2021 abortion up-to-birth law that stripped all protections for mothers, babies, and medical professionals while legalizing full-term abortion in the state.
He wrote, “We cannot overstate the importance of this victory,” adding, “this is only possible because, in 2021, our Democratic legislative majority and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) repealed an abortion ban that had been on the books since 1969, ensuring it would not become enforceable again if Roe fell.”
He called pro-life laws that save babies a “nightmare scenario.”
The two pro-abortion Democrats claim that “a majority of Americans want abortion to remain safe and legal,” but lie because a recent Albuquerque Journal poll shows that most New Mexicans (59 percent) believe in restrictions on abortion.
14 recent national polls continue to confirm that most Americans back abortion restrictions, with most of these polls being conducted by academic and left-leaning pollsters.
Despite this, Egolf and Lasinski claim, “But a vocal and well-funded right-wing minority has poured dark money into state legislative races for far too many years, creating gerrymandered legislative majorities to try and inoculate Republicans from public opinion. We must keep fighting back.”
The rhetoric falls flat because Democrats are the recipients of millions in dark money from the likes of George Soros, Bill and Melinda Gates, and Michael Bloomberg, funding dark money groups such as pro-abortion Planned Parenthood, EMILY’s List, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and others that attack pro-lifers.
Another laughable claim is that “gerrymandered legislative majorities” are supposedly “inoculating” the GOP from public opinion, but rather in states like New Mexico, Egolf’s Democrat majority gerrymandered the latest legislative maps to promote extreme Democrat supermajorities in both chambers and in all three of the state’s congressional districts. Dark money groups were even caught giving $50 bribes to those who would testify in the “Citizens Redistricting Committee” to support the partisan maps.
In the op-ed, the two Democrats conclude, “We cannot afford to sit this election out while Republicans undermine the will of the people by abolishing our fundamental freedoms state by state,” but when it comes to the “fundamental freedoms” of the babies in the womb, both are silent.
According to New Mexico Department of Health documents obtained by the pro-life group Abortion Free New Mexico, a shocking number of taxpayer-funded abortions happened right here in New Mexico through Medicaid.
The records obtained by the group indicate, “In 2020, New Mexico Medicaid funded 3,372 abortion procedures that resulted in expenditures to abortion providers totaling $386,096.06.”
“In 2021, the numbers rose as New Mexico Medicaid funded 3,955 abortion procedures that resulted in expenditures to abortion providers totaling $421,026.90.”
The group wrote in the press release that New Mexico’s Medicaid system expended “almost $1 million tax dollars funding 7,327 abortions over the course of two years alone.”
The news comes after Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham pledged to spend $10 million in 2023 on a new abortion mill in Las Cruces to service Texas women if she wins re-election.
Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico wrote, “Nearly $1,000,000 of our tax dollars that are already being paid out by New Mexico Medicaid over the past two years alone for 7,327 abortions should alarm us all and motivate us to act!”
“While we can’t stop New Mexico Medicaid from funding abortions, we can work to prevent Michelle Lujan Grisham’s latest attempt to force us as New Mexican citizens to pay for an abortion center that will cater to out of state women seeking to kill their children by voting pro-life. It is vital that each New Mexican of conscience is mobilized to help get pro-life candidates elected in November. Early voting is right around the corner so time is of the essence to volunteer your time, talents and treasure to the candidate of your choice who will stand for life and make sure that Lujan Grisham’s nefarious plans don’t come to fruition.”
Lujan Grisham faces tough competition from GOP nominee Mark Ronchetti, who is polling within single digits of the embattled abortion up-to-birth governor who previously signed a bill in 2021 to legalize abortion up-to-birth in the state of New Mexico by stripping away all protections for mothers, babies, and doctors.
On Wednesday, following Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s announcement of an executive order pledging to use $10 million taxpayer dollars to erect a new abortion facility in Las Cruces, pro-abortion groups issued what is being called an “Orwellian” press kit denying basic facts and promoting abortion misinformation.
In the kit shared by the Santa Fe New Mexican’s Daniel Chacón, the groups list what they brand as “political terms” versus “accurate terms,” claiming terms have become “stigmatized” to oppose abortion.
The guide claims “abortion clinic” must now be called “health center,” pro-lifers be branded “anti-abortion individuals,” pro-abortion supporters be branded “pro-abortion rights” and “pro-reproductive health care,” abortionists be deemed “health care providers,” “women” now be called “patients,” “individuals,” and “people,” and “late-term abortion” now be branded “abortion later in pregnancy.”
The pro-abortion press kit says regarding nixing the word “woman,” “Women are not the only people who become pregnant and/or seek abortion care. People of all genders, including non-binary individuals also seek abortion care.” Science does not back this up. Only women can become pregnant and have children.
The abortion kit also defended full-term abortion, claiming that the terms “abortion up until birth” and “infanticide are terms pushed by anti-abortion organizations in order to scare people and stigmatize reproductive health care. ‘Abortion up until birth’ simply does not occur.”
This is easily fact-checkable as blatantly false. A U.S. Congressional report found in 2016 that babies in New Mexico were, indeed, aborted up until birth and even killed after birth, making “infanticide” an absolutely appropriate term.
“‘Abortion up until birth’ simply does not occur.”
FACT CHECK: FALSE — FOUR BRUJAS 🧙🏻♀️🧙🏻♀️🧙🏻♀️🧙🏻♀️
Babies were, indeed, aborted up to birth and KILLED right here in NM at UNM https://t.co/LrPRTeW4D4
The Republican Party of New Mexico responded to the new press kit, writing, “Look at this: This Orwellian ‘newspeak’ guide was given to media reporters in NM to make sure they use words that sway the narrative. Women are replaced by ‘people,’ late-term abortion is now ‘abortion later in pregnancy,’ and pro-life is replaced with ‘anti-abortion.’”

Will Reinert of the Republican Governors Association noted that Lujan Grisham “now dictates how reporters write about her taxpayer funded abortion clinic to make it more politically palatable.”
Editor’s note: A previous version of this article reported based on other reports that the press guide came from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. It actually came from MLG’s pro-abortion allies.
