Gabe Vasquez walks the tightrope on border security

Amidst the ongoing border crisis and dwindling approval ratings for Joe Biden’s immigration policies, U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez, whose district encompasses all of New Mexico’s southern border, has taken a 180-degree flip in his approach to border security. This shift is raising eyebrows among political observers and opponents who point to his earlier border rhetoric as inflammatory and extreme.

Vasquez is now advocating for an increase in the number of border agents, emphasizing the need for cross-border collaboration, and participating in roundtable discussions. This marked change in his stance on border security stands in stark contrast to his previous positions.

Biden’s approval rating on the immigration crisis is a meager 26 percent. After vehemently claiming he would never build any more border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, as his predecessor did, he is now ordering the construction of 20 miles of barrier in Texas — a complete flip-flop on the policy.

Back in 2018, Vasquez described the border crisis as a “non-existent threat” and criticized then-President Donald Trump’s border security efforts as “ill-informed” and “in bad taste.”

In 2020, he went further, calling for the elimination of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), claiming that the agency had “no regard for humanity.”

Throughout 2021, Vasquez repeatedly voiced his intention to dismantle Trump’s border wall, going so far as to state, “Tear what’s left of it down” and “Let’s tear it down.”

He went on to label the border wall as the product of a “crooked, racist administration” and commended Joe Biden for halting its construction, characterizing it as a “racist, environmentally destructive, massive waste of money” and a “glorification of xenophobia.”

This shifting stance has raised concerns among those who view it as part of a pattern of behavior. Vasquez previously faced criticism for deleting progressive tweets to create a more moderate image in 2021.

These shifts have led to questions about the sincerity of Vasquez’s positions and his credibility among voters. Critics argue that his tendency to change his rhetoric based on political expediency raises doubts about his commitment to the people of New Mexico.

In response to these allegations, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokeswoman, Delanie Bomar, emphasized, “Gabe Vasquez is an extremist who adjusts his rhetoric for whatever is politically beneficial for him in the moment. Voters cannot trust Gabe Vasquez to put New Mexico first.”

The first-term Democrat faces fierce opposition from GOP former Congresswoman Yvette Herrell, who is polling ahead of the incumbent.

Vasquez’s evolving stance on border security and his fluctuating political rhetoric reflect the broader debate surrounding border policies and immigration issues in the United States. As the border crisis continues to be a focal point in national discussions, Vasquez’s lack of a clear stance on the border leaves voters in the Second Congressional District guessing.

Texas governor deploys National Guard to reinforce barrier with New Mexico

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, has ordered the Texas National Guard to reinforce “the barrier with concertina wire, a type of barbed wire, near the New Mexico state line, close to Sunland Park,” KFOX14 reported.

The reinforcements will be near the Rio Grande bank at the U.S.-Mexico Border.

“The move is meant to restrict what the Governor’s allies consider to be overwhelming migration through unofficial pathways,” the outlet continued.

Abbott shared via X, formerly Twitter, “‘Texas National Guard reinforces border with razor wire following Governor Abbott’s orders.’ This is on the border between Texas and NEW Mexico.”

He added, “Migrants are entering New Mexico illegally then crossing into Texas. We are stopping it.”

State Rep. Stefani Lord commented on Abbott’s post, tagging New Mexico Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, “[H]ow many crossing into America via New Mexico  are Hamas ‘rape terrorists*’ or other terrorist groups chanting ‘Death to America?’ *Survivors of Hamas attack on music festival: Women were raped next to the corpses of their friends.”

Abbott launched the state’s Operation Lone Star to stop the scourge of illegal immigration into the country. He has transported illegal immigrants to leftist “sanctuary cities” that have since been angered by the move to the supposed inclusive cities of illegal immigrants.

New video proves the dire need for completion of the border wall

A recently posted video from Muckraker.com shows how easy it is for the cartel to smuggle illegal migrants and contraband items into the United States through gaps in the border wall left unfinished by Joe Biden.

The outlet posted a video of a major gap in the wall in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, first constructed under President George W. Bush, which had major flaws, such as huge squares being able to be chiseled out of the mesh fence along with gaps between the sides of each panel of the barrier.

The video shows the current system’s failures, with reporters from Muckracker.com being able to easly slip from the U.S. side into Mexico, which those on the Mexico side of the barrier can do just as easily.

When President Donald Trump left office, and Joe Biden took over, one of the 80-year-old Democrat’s first acts was to cease construction of the border wall started by the 45th President, leaving millions of dollars of supplies to rot, instead of using the materials to finish construction of the border.

Biden’s weak immigration policies have encouraged illegal border crossers, including cartels, which have been smuggling people, drugs, guns, and other unmentionables into the United States, including in New Mexico, which has at least 53 miles of open border wall and many ineffective Bush-era barriers.

California AG probing illegal immigrant flight from New Mexico to Sacramento

Far-left Democrat California Attorney General Rob Bonta is fuming after illegal immigrants were flown from New Mexico to California’s state capital city in Sacramento. The illegal immigrants were previously at a holding facility in El Paso, Texas.

Sacramento County is an illegal immigrant “sanctuary” within the “sanctuary state” of California, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.

“California’s attorney general said the state of Florida appears to have arranged for a group of South American migrants to be dropped off outside a Sacramento church,” reported the AP.

Bonta said, “While this is still under investigation, we can confirm these individuals were in possession of documentation purporting to be from the government of the State of Florida.”

“While we continue to collect evidence, I want to say this very clearly: State-sanctioned kidnapping is not a public policy choice, it is immoral and disgusting,” he claimed.

Bonta’s spokeswoman, Tara Gallego, said Florida’s Division of Emergency Management operated the flight carried out by contractor Vertol Systems Co.

The same contractor was paid $1.56 million to fly illegal immigrants to the “sanctuary city” of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, which made national news.

The AP continued, “The 16 migrants who arrived in Sacramento on Friday are from Colombia and Venezuela. They entered the U.S. through Texas. They were transported to New Mexico then flown by a charter plane to California’s capital, where they were then dropped off in front of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento, California officials said.”

Cartel continues treating illegal migrants like cash cows of human meat

The cartel continues to treat illegal immigrants they are smuggling into the United States as nothing more than cargo of human meat, each smuggling — whether successful or unsuccessful — paying approximately $8,000 each to get across the border and into America.

Over the weekend, the U.S. Border Patrol chief for the El Paso Sector, Chief Anthony Good, announced 54 illegal immigrants were found in a “stash house” in Santa Teresa (Doña Ana County, New Mexico) in “deplorable” conditions.

The Chief wrote that the Santa Teresa “Anti-Smuggling Unit, #ElPaso Sector Integrated Targeting Team & @txDPSWest encountered 54 migrants inside a local stash house living in deplorable conditions.”

According to the announcement, six illegal immigrants “were found to have prior removal orders and will be prosecuted accordingly.”

Photos from the scene show rows of migrants sitting along the front of the house surrounded by trash and debris.

Inside the house, similar scenes show illegal immigrants packed into a tiny room with only three mattresses lying on the ground along with trash surrounding them.

The New York Post reports, “Saturday’s case is only the latest example of undocumented migrants living in squalor after crossing the border. The Texas Department of Public Safety and Customs and Border Patrol announced last month that more than 140 immigrants were found living in similar conditions across the state.”

“Officials said during last month’s raids, one house had as many as 95 migrants in it, while another was packed with more than 50 people.”

As the border crisis continues to ravage border regions, Title 42, which helped alleviate the immigration catastrophe lapsed last Thursday, appearing to create a new boom of illegal immigration into the country, with the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas feeling the hardest hits.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a comprehensive immigration fix Thursday, but every Democrat representative rejected it. Joe Biden has promised to veto the measure if it reaches his desk, a further sign the border crisis shall continue with renewed human suffering at scenes such as in Santa Teresa.

Shocking video report shows cartel smugglers ravaging NM’s southern border

A new video report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) has revealed shocking images from the United States border with Mexico in the El Paso sector, encompassing New Mexico.

On New Mexico’s border with Mexico, the report by the group’s senior national security fellow Todd Bensman shows images of square holes cut out of the mesh border barrier constructed under President George W. Bush, which the cartel is utilizing to smuggle illegal immigrants into the country.

Just in a one-mile stretch examined by CIS, it found at least seven holes still gaping open and utilized by the cartel. It also caught on video armed cartel members smuggling illegal immigrants into the United States.

Other scenes from the report show Bensman joining Hidalgo County Sherriff’s deputies to catch criminal aliens with laser night vision technology.

“In New Mexico, the Democratic governor (Michelle Lujan Grisham) won’t allow State Police to join the dwindling ranks of Border Patrol agents in opposing this runner traffick, quite unlike neighboring Republican Governor Greg Abbott with his multi-billion-dollar ‘Operation Lone Star.’ That leaves some willing sheriffs’ offices to protect their own communities. One of them is Hidalgo County Sherriff William Chadborn of Lordscburg in Southwest New Mexico,” Bensman explains.

“It’s pretty much a constant flow. There’s always something coming through… Hidalgo County,” the Sheriff said.

Watch the full report from CIS:

The dire scenes from the border are only expected to worsen, as Biden’s ineffective border policies and the lapse of Title 42 are creating a perfect storm for an even worse crisis.

Border Patrol agent in NM shot multiple times by trafficker

On Thursday, a U.S. Border Patrol agent was shot multiple times by a human smuggler in a vehicle at approximately 11:30 a.m. on State Road 146.

Fox News reported, “The agent, assigned to Lordsburg, New Mexico, was wearing body armor at the time and survived, officials said…. After being shot, the unidentified agent returned fire as the vehicle sped away. That vehicle was involved in an accident a few miles down the road and rolled over.”

Six people inside the vehicle were reportedly taken into custody, while two were flown to a trauma center in El Paso, Texas.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), New Mexico State Police, and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the shooting.

Following the news, state Rep.-elect Jenifer Jones (R-Deming), who represents a border district, wrote in a statement, “The shooting of our New Mexico border patrol agent yesterday highlights the escalating crisis we face here on our southern border. I am beyond grateful that miraculously our agent escaped serious injury and death. At the same time, I am deeply concerned about the safety of our citizens, our law enforcement and all who will suffer if our unsecured border continues to spiral out of control.”

“Our government, both federal and state, must acknowledge and take ownership of this crisis. We must take a strong stance against crime and the criminals who are threatening our lives and livelihood. We must move quickly with decisive action toward securing our southern border.”

Joe Biden is expected to visit the border on Sunday in El Paso, which marks the first time he has focused on the sweeping immigration issue that has plagued the country under his tenure. Since his installation, there have been over 5.3 million illegal border crossings and over 900,000 “got-aways” escaping into the country, according to the Republican National Committee.

National outlet shines light on NM’s border crisis as election issue

While most of the mainstream media is content to ignore the border catastrophe happening in New Mexico — a safe haven for criminal aliens and drug cartels — only a few news outlets, such as Fox News, have even dedicated a few minutes to the crisis of the state’s porous border.

New Mexico remains the lone illegal immigration free-for-all between Arizona and Texas, two states that have beefed up security on the southern border, even going so far as to allocate state funds to finish President Trump’s border wall.

The wall proved during the Trump administration to be a massive success. But now, with gaping holes being left for illegal aliens, human and drug traffickers, and even some terrorists to jump through with ease, the crisis has required a robust response.

Such a response has not come to fruition under Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. Just the opposite. During her first few days as governor, Lujan Grisham pulled the state’s National Guard from the southern border, further exacerbating the crisis. She has parroted open borders rhetoric, which has led municipalities like Santa Fe and Albuquerque to declare themselves so-called “sanctuaries” for criminal aliens.

The Washington Examiner highlighted New Mexico in a piece published Thursday, focusing on the state’s governor’s race being a potential game changer to help stop the spread of deadly fentanyl and close off illegal immigration numbers, which have risen to over two million apprehensions just this year.

The outlet reported:

There is an additional reason New Mexico attracts less notice for illegal crossovers than its neighbors — federal agency classifications that can keep the state’s profile low when it comes to illegal immigration. There are no U.S. Customs and Border Protection sectors in New Mexico, the fifth-largest state by land mass at 121,365 square miles. Texas has multiple border sectors, along with Arizona and California. Even Vermont, the seventh smallest state, at 9,249 square miles, has its own sector up north along the U.S. border with Canada.

There are three border crossings in New Mexico, compared to six in California, six in Arizona, and 20 in Texas, even though at 179.5 miles, New Mexico’s border with Mexico is longer than that of California, at 140 miles.

That lesser amount of federal border resources put into New Mexico has become a major campaign focal point for Ronchetti. New Mexico has to pick up the slack from the federal authorities, argues Ronchetti, a former television weatherman who was the 2020 New Mexico GOP Senate nominee, losing to then-Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) by a 6.1-percentage-point margin.

Ronchetti is up against an experienced candidate in Lujan Grisham, who won the New Mexico governorship in 2018 after six years in the House, representing the state’s Albuquerque-area 1st Congressional District.

The Examiner wrote that Lujan Grisham could very well be defeated, saying, “Lujan Grisham, however, may be vulnerable. In addition to taking heat over border policies, Lujan Grisham drew a wave of negative headlines early in the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2020, she was criticized after purchasing jewelry from a store in Albuquerque once she ordered all nonessential businesses to be closed. In response, the governor’s office said the transaction was done remotely and didn’t violate the order.”

It added, “If Ronchetti ousts the governor, he’ll need only look south, toward the border, to know why.”

MLG deported illegal aliens to leftist ‘sanctuaries’ before it was cool

During President Donald Trump’s time in the White House, far-left Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) did what Republican governors are now being attacked for — busing illegal aliens to “sanctuary cities” that protect criminal aliens.

According to the Associated Press, “When migrants overwhelmed cities and shelters in New Mexico in 2019, Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham moved several dozen of them by bus from border communities to Denver, where Christian congregations volunteered to provide shelter and aid. Fast forward to 2022 and there is little, if any, talk of transporting migrants away from the border by Lujan Grisham — or Republican nominee for governor Mark Ronchetti.”

In 2019, The Washington Post reported, “A busload of 55 migrants who had been arrested by U.S. border authorities and were then released into the United States left Las Cruces, N.M., on Sunday afternoon bound for Denver, where it arrived at about 2 a.m. Monday and left people in the care of three churches, according to the office of New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), which paid $4,000 for the bus to help ease the burden on cities in the southern part of the state.”

Lujan Grisham said at the time that the Trump administration leaves “states like ours in really precarious positions, and we’re showing folks we can lead and problem-solve. We figured out a way to get 55 folks out of Las Cruces and to Denver. We’re going to continue to do everything like that that we can in the short term.”

Under Joe Biden, there were over two million illegal border crossings just in 2022 alone (2,150,639 to be exact), according to a report from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol released this week.

This comes while Lujan Grisham’s campaign attacks GOP governors for doing what she did just a few short years ago.

“Gov. DeSantis is using this opportunity to distract Americans from the fact that his far-right colleagues are trying to pass a national abortion ban, a position he supports,” Lujan Grisham spokeswoman Maddy Hayden said in a statement Tuesday.

The smell of hypocrisy from Lujan Grisham can’t be overstated, especially since her campaign is now criticizing governors like DeSantis and Greg Abbott (R-TX) when she is the original “deporter” of illegal aliens from her state.

‘Bizarre’: All-Dem NM Supreme Court says illegal aliens can obtain law licenses

In a unanimous ruling by the fully Democrat-controlled New Mexico Supreme Court, illegal aliens will be allowed to practice law in the state as attorneys despite their very presence in New Mexico being against the law.

In a new set of rules regarding admission to the New Mexico bar, “the court held that a lack of U.S. citizenship or immigration status may no longer be used to deny a law license to individuals holding a law degree and otherwise qualifying for membership in the New Mexico Bar Association. In issuing the order, the court concurred with changes recommended by the Board of Bar Examiners and the Code of Professional Conduct Committee,” according to The Epoch Times.

“License to practice law shall not be denied based solely on the applicant’s citizenship or immigration status,” it wrote.

Far-left Democrat Chief Justice Shannon Bacon claimed the change “is grounded in the fundamental principle of fairness, and is consistent with New Mexico’s historical values of inclusion and diversity in its culture.”

All members but Justice Michael Vigil were appointed by Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who faces a tough reelection battle against Republican Mark Ronchetti, who is polling within single digits of the embattled governor.

Legal commentator Curt Levey, President of the Committee for Justice, Curt Levey, told the Times, “It strikes me as interesting that the Chief Justice issued a statement,” adding, “Normally, the majority opinion would speak for itself.”

Levey added that it is “bizarre” that in the state, “you can be here illegally, subject to arrest and deportation, and yet at the same time, you could be representing as a lawyer another illegal alien who’s facing the same thing.”
