Fact-checking Deb Haaland during KOAT 7 debate with Michelle Garcia Holmes

On Sunday, Democrat Rep. Deb Haaland and Republican challenger Michelle Garcia Holmes came together on KOAT Channel 7 for a candidate debate. Garcia Holmes highlighted her long career in Law Enforcement and at the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office. Haaland focused more on her “progressive” policies she has championed while in Congress while slamming President Trump for what she perceived as a “lack of leadership.” 

Haaland made some claims that the Piñon Post fact-checked. Here are some of the major misrepresentations and untruths of the night:

Haaland working in “a bipartisan way.” 

Haaland claims she has worked “tirelessly” and in a “bipartisan way” in the areas of healthcare, the economy, and the environment. However, Haaland votes 95% of the time with socialist Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), 96% of the time with Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and 96% of the time with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). She also branded President Trump a “dictator,” which does not exactly paint a picture of “bipartisanship.”

Haaland claims Antifa/Black Lives Matter protesters removed from Lafayette Park were “peaceful.” 

Haaland claimed that “President Trump, uh, uh, broke up a peaceful protest — and it was peaceful — in Lafayette Park with teargas. And uh, Sad to say, uh, Park, National Park Police abusing, uh, the media, the journalists who were there.” 

However, the “peaceful protesters,” who spoke to the media, revealed in their own words the “peaceful” nature of their protest.

According to the Washington Examiner:

The “peaceful protester” in question had been atop the maintenance structure in Lafayette Square the night before and was among those who set it on fire, he said. In fact, being shot by the rubber bullets of riot-clad park policemen and other law enforcement agents excited him enough to make him want to burn everything down, including the White House itself.

“Why did they shoot you off the roof?” I asked.

“We were giving it to them good,” he laughed. “Bricks, rocks, bottles — they decided to get us back.”

It all sounded like good fun: the rioting, the vandalizing of revered public monuments, the smashing of windows, the burning, the looting — exactly what you’d do on a dull Sunday night during lockdown after you’ve seen everything there is to see on Netflix.

The Examiner concluded that these “peaceful” protests were “anything but peaceful.” 

Haaland’s support for Antifa

Haaland claimed, “I have never said that I supported Antifa. I have never said that Antifa was a peaceful, uh, organization.” However, that is not what she said in August of 2019 when she called an Antifa mob in the “progressive” city of Portland, Oregon, “folks who are the peaceful protesters working to safeguard their city.” Haaland did, indeed call the organization peaceful, despite Antifa terrorists pepper-spraying counter-protesters in the face and throwing hammers at them as they drove by. Some Antifa terrorists tried to pry open doors on a bus, while the passengers had to stave off their attacks. One man was beaten unconscious.

Haaland claims she has “never missed a vote”

Garcia Holmes challenged Haaland on the time she spent while in Congress campaigning for Elizabeth Warren’s failed presidential campaign. To that, Haaland claimed, “I have been at every single vote, I have been at every single committee meeting.” However, according to the government watchdog group GovTrack, Haaland had missed ten votes while in the House of Representatives, which is not “every single vote.”

Haaland claims Trump called COVID-19 a “Democratic hoax.” 

Haaland, while answering a question about President Trump’s coronavirus response, claimed the President called COVID-19 a “Democratic hoax,” which an independent fact-checker, FactCheck.org, proved was taken out-of-context and a misrepresentation of the President’s words. 

FactCheck.org writes: 

“Trump did use the word ‘hoax’ but his full comments, and subsequent explanation, make clear he was talking about Democratic attacks on his administration’s handling of the outbreak, not the virus itself.”

Haaland also claimed the President “doesn’t really have a plan for COVID,” However, Garcia Holmes highlighted the President’s fast-tracking of the production of ventilators, providing critical PPE to states, closing off travel from China, among other measures, which clearly displayed the President’s leadership during COVID-19.

ABQ City Council overwhelmingly rejects two anti-gun bills

On Monday afternoon, the Albuquerque City Council voted down two anti-gun ordinances, O-19-82 and O-19-83, with both measures failing 3-6. 

These two measures, O-19-82, and O-19-83 aimed to severely limit gun protections for citizens, with 19-82 sponsored by City Councilor Pat Davis proposing mandates on how gun owners can store their firearms, with locked storage mandates, and 19-83 sponsored by Councilors Pat Davis, Isaac Benton, and Diane Gibson banning all firearms from buildings owned or leased by the City of Albuquerque. 

According to the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, the two bills would have done the following: 

Ordinance O-19-82 mandates locked storage requirements for any firearms outside your immediate possession or control, with fines and/or jail time for violations.  Requiring all firearms out of arm’s reach to be stored with a lock or in a locked container will render them useless in self-defense situations and most recreational or competitive shooting scenarios.  New Mexico already has a child abuse/endangerment statute that gives law enforcement and district attorneys the tools to charge and prosecute parents or guardians in appropriate cases when their child gains unauthorized access to a firearm and commits a crime or injures himself or another.  This ordinance is expected to be considered at the Council’s meeting on Monday, September 21, at 3:00 pm.

Ordinance O-19-83 bans firearms at any building owned or leased by the city for conducting business with the public, including city hall, city libraries, city community centers, city parks and recreation facilities.  This would negate your right to carry and protect yourself in these taxpayer-owned buildings and facilities and nullify your state-issued concealed handgun license in countless locations.  Criminals would ignore these newly-created gun-free zones that leave law-abiding citizens defenseless.  This measure is expected to be considered at the Council’s meeting on Monday, September 21, at 3:00 pm.

The pro-Second Amendment victory is the third straight win for firearm advocates this month, previously on September 9, the Council voted down a measure by 5-4 to urge the New Mexico legislature to strip the “firearms pre-emption clause” from Article II, Section 6 of the state Constitution. ABQ City Council to consider two more anti-gun measures on Monday

On September 9, the Albuquerque City Council voted down a measure by 5-4 to urge the New Mexico legislature to strip the “firearms pre-emption clause” from Article II, Section 6 of the state Constitution. The measure would ask for the revision to the article of the Constitution to be put on the ballot for voters’ approval.

Despite the tiny win for the Second Amendment on September 9, on Monday the Council is set to hear another slew of bills aimed at limiting Albuquerque residents’ gun rights.

ABQ: Gun-toting BLM protester’s charges dropped—will armed pro-police protester get similar justice?

On Sunday, it was reported that a gun-carrying Black Lives Matter protester, Francisco (Frankie) Grady (pictured right), who was arrested at a June Black Lives Matter protest for toting the firearm, had his charges dropped, according to his attorney. 

Grady allegedly broke the City of Albuquerque’s rule that makes it illegal to carry firearms at city parks, with his lawyer, Ryan Villa adding, “I think the city is taking a position that they can apply this law to any public ground, and city property, where a school event may have once taken place or has once taken place, but obviously the district attorney’s office and I don’t agree.” 

Villa continued, “They’re trying to apply state law in a situation where it just doesn’t apply at all.”

Grady blasted the Police, claiming they were targeting him for being a Black man, asking, “why were two African Americans, expressing our same Second Amendment rights, why were we arrested but that other group were not?”

Left-wing media outlets such as the University of New Mexico’s “Daily Lobo” have bemoaned the appearance that “Reopen NM” and pro-police protests have allegedly not been cited for defying the weapons ban, but Black Lives Matter protests have not, inferring that it could have something to do with racism.

But in actuality, Taylor Deblassie (pictured left), was handcuffed and cited at a June 19th event for a similar charge: violating the Mayor’s Administrative Instruction 5-20 because he was open-carrying his holstered pistol.

Deblassie faces a third-degree felony, according to a source close to the situation.

Deblassie claims the Albuquerque Police Department is misrepresenting the facts that he was given a warning given by officers. “This is fake news. There was no warning given to me,” wrote Deblassie on a Fundly page he set up to help him cover legal fees. 

“I am a law-abiding citizen who has never been cited nor arrested in my life so you can imagine the stress and anxiety I’m experiencing,” Deblassie continued.

The two similar cases, one being a Black Lives Matter protester, and one being a pro-police protester, begs the question of whether there will be equal justice applied in these cases.

Leftists demand BernCo Sheriff Manny Gonzales resign over planned meeting with Trump

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Bernalillo County Sheriff Manny Gonzales was meeting in Washington, D.C. with President Donald Trump to discuss the implementation of the President’s “Operation Legend,” which according to the Department of Justice, will be “a sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative across all federal law enforcement agencies working in conjunction with state and local law enforcement officials to fight the sudden surge of violent crime.”

Upon news of the Sheriff’s upcoming meeting with the President to discuss a benign measure to ensure safe streets, the far-left Democrats in New Mexico’s Congressional delegation and at New Mexico liberal groups exploded with immediate fits of rage.

Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), who has a permanent residence in Maryland, said in a statement, “Sheriff Gonzales wasn’t representing Bernalillo County when he opposed body cameras. He wasn’t representing Bernalillo County when he opposed efforts for common sense gun violence reforms. And he isn’t with us now.”

Heinrich demanded, “Instead of collaborating with the Albuquerque Police Department, the Sheriff is inviting the President’s stormtroopers into Albuquerque,” continuing to say, “If we can learn anything from Portland, it’s that we don’t need this kind of ‘help’ from the White House. The President is currently using federal law enforcement agents like a domestic paramilitary force. That’s precisely how fascism begins and none of us should ever encourage or accept it.” 

The junior senator is referring to the arrests made in portland of Antifa domestic terrorists which sparked fire on Twitter after videos showed Federal agents calmly arresting provocateurs 

Far-left Rep. Deb Haaland who represents Albuquerque in the First Congressional District wrote on Twitter, “President Trump and AG Barr are trying to deploy federal law enforcement officers into Albuquerque to harass our communities & divide us. Sheriff Manny Gonzales is their accomplice. We will stand united against this threat.” 

Far-left fringe group “ProgressNow NM,” which has actively supported the local Antifa chapter, started an unhinged petition demanding Sheriff Gonzales resign, claiming he is letting in “Trump’s Gestapo.” ProgressNow previously endorsed a series of tweets from Antifa doxxing fellow citizens they disagreed with on political views.

Law and order by the Bernalillo County Sheriff appear to be universally rejected by the leftist mob, hell-bent on destroying the Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, and any other type of peace-keeping agency from doing their job. If merely meeting with President Trump can trigger such a response, it is inconceivable what lengths these people will go when the Sheriff begins implementing “Operation Legend”

Leftists horrified as hundreds of patriotic ‘Reopen NM’ demonstrators rally at ABQ’s Civic Plaza

On Thursday, a huge crowd of patriotic protesters took to Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza to show Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham that they want New Mexico reopened and they are ready to get back to work. According to KOB 4’s Tommy Lopez, there were over 500 people in attendance, although that number looks to be a low estimate. 

Lopez also noted that the protesters were especially “nice” and “pleasant” to media, writing, “We often, as media, get harassed/ spoken rudely to at protests of all kinds. Everyone here has been nice and pleasant today and has allowed us to roam freely to take video.”

Multiple well-known political figures and faith leaders spoke, including Cowboys for Trump’s Couy Griffin, who is also an Otero County Commissioner, Steve Smotherman of Legacy Church in Albuquerque. Also in attendance were state Senator Greg Baca (R-Belen), as well candidates for New Mexico House of Representatives Scott Chandler (R-Deming) and Dinah Vargas (R-Albuquerque). 

“Big government telling us we can’t sit in a restaurant but we can sit outside or we can crowd into Walmart,” Chandler told KOB 4 News, adding, “None of it makes sense.” 

Folks in attendance held signs reading sentiments like “Open New Mexico,” “We the People Will Not be Muzzled,” and “I miss going to school.” Members of the New Mexico Civil Guard (NMCG) were also in attendance to keep the peace. Despite the 100% peaceful protest, Albuquerque’s leftist fringe, domestic terrorist, and other hate groups such as The Red Nation, were triggered by NMCG members carrying firearms.

The protest comes after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham rolled back reopening in New Mexico, which included mandates forcing restaurants to only operate at 50% capacity and outside, a ban on contact sports, and a mandatory 14-day quarantine for out of state visitors. 

The New Mexico Restaurant Association estimates the measure will lead to at least 20% of the state’s restaurants to close permanently, while New Mexico hotels have already had to deal with thousands of hotel cancellations due to the Governor’s new rules. 

Leftist “reporters” for the University of New Mexico’s “Daily Lobo” blog/school newspaper remarked on Twitter “Way bigger crowd than I expected. This is truly horrifying!” 

The huge showing from conservative New Mexicans in Albuquerque is another indication of a growing momentum for Republicans to take back New Mexico’s government — from the state Legislature — all the way up to the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate this election cycle. Leftist groups demand Keller, ABQ City Council defund ‘racist and ineffective’ APD

Amid the leftist firestorm from Democrats regarding the death of convicted felon Goerge Floyd while in police custody, Democrats have now begun their newest crusade: defund the police. 

The movement comes after rioters in large cities across the country began violently attacking Law Enforcement with Molotov cocktails, rocks, and other objects while burning down small businesses and looting anything they could get their hands on.

Now, Democrat lawmakers who have goaded on such activity, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) and Deb Haaland (D-NM), along with Albuquerque Mayor Keller, are being pressured by fringe Antifa-affiliated groups to “defund the police.”

The call comes after Minneapolis, Minnesota City Counselors look to defund their police department, calling police protection a sign of white “privilege.” Leftists have now attached themselves to this once-movement, which is now fracturing the Democrat party.

Activists are now demanding Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and the Albuquerque City Council get on-board with defunding and disbanding the Albuquerque Police Department, calling it “racist and ineffective.” 

The far-left fringe initiative “Defund 12” demands the City Council “vote no on all increases to police budgets, vote yes to decrease police spending and budgets, vote yes to increase spending on healthcare, education, housing, and community programs that keep us safe.” The “12” in the initiative’s name is intended to signify Law Enforcement.

A template email for leftists to send to their city councilors demands the defunding of APD, while simultaneously “providing more support and funding towards our community efforts and organizations that serve our predominantly Black and Latinx communities.” 

“Black and Latinx communities are living in persistent fear of being killed by state authorities like police, immigration agents or even white vigilantes who are emboldened by state actors,” it continues, writing off APD as “racist and ineffective,” and causing “terror” to minority communities.

“Show up for Racial Justice,” another fringe group, claimed calling people destroying cities and targeting cops “looters” or “rioters” is “white supremacy.” The group wrote on Twitter, “White people, talking about protests as “violent” or “riots” or “looting” is white supremacy. Here’s how to call each other in. #EndWhiteSilence.”

Albuquerque’s U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland attended the Houston funeral services of George Floyd, where racist “reverend” Al Sharpton gave the eulogy, which bashed President Trump, claiming he used a church as a “prop.” 

Haaland praised Sharpton’s eulogy and said she’s “in this fight for the long haul,” appearing to stand with those calling for the defunding of police departments across the country. She previously endorsed an initiative from far-left Albuquerque City Councilors Pat Davis and Lan Sena to “demilitarize” police by banning APD from applying or accepting Military giveaways. Mayor Tim Keller joined Haaland in endorsing the leftist measure.

The far-left majority on the Albuquerque City Council may mean the council could push forward a call to disband the APD if enough public opinion shifts in favor of such a measure, although some leftists, such as Democrat presumptive nominee for president have slightly pushed back against complete defunding of police departments.

Keller appears to stand by rioters, cries ‘racism’ — Mob sets Albuquerque ON FIRE, shoots at police

On Sunday, Democrat Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller attended a rally supposedly in support of a Minneapolis man who died in police custody, George Floyd, decrying the man’s death and standing by the protesters across the country burning down cities and injuring people defending their businesses from looters. A black Federal Protective Service officer, Patrick Underwood, was murdered by Antifa rioters in Oakland, California over the weekend. 

But Keller appeared to support the lawless mob of protesters, saying in a speech on Sunday, “We stand with those calling for Justice. ‘I can’t breathe’ in so many ways is not just — it’s not just one more black man’s words. It is a cadence of suffering over oppression of racism that has gripped our country since our founding.” 

In a subsequent tweet, Keller wrote, “In this city, we believe that #BLACKLIVESMATTER. We are working hard to build an equitable city but we must do better. We see you. We hear you. We stand with you.” 

Sunday night, violent rioters “fired shots at police, broke windows at several buildings and set multiple fires,” according to reports by the Albuquerque Journal. 

Reports note that rioters shot at law enforcement in front of the historic Kimo Theater, threw Molotov cocktails at them, and started fires in the streets and in trashcans. 

UFC champ Jon “Bones” was present at the riots to break up the violence, taking spray cans away from Antifa terrorists, demanding, “Give me the spray can, give me the spray can.” 

He wrote in an Instagram post, “As a young black man, trust me, I’m frustrated as well. But this is not the way, we are starting to make a bad situation worse. If you really got love for your city (505), protect your s—.”

MLG reviles pro-jobs demonstrators—ignores far-left socialists demanding free rent and mortgages

On Friday, New Mexicans gathered at Civic Plaza in Albuquerque to demand Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham open up the state and let working families return to work to provide for their families.

Annoyed by the peaceful demonstrators, Lujan Grisham shot out a ridiculing statement toward their rally, writing, “Mass gatherings are dangerous and in violation of the public health order. We want any New Mexican who is upset about the state’s efforts to limit illness and prevent mass death to find safe and non-dangerous ways to exercise their first amendment right to protest, one of many rights we are all grateful to have, none of which are infringed upon by the necessary actions the state has taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 and save the lives of New Mexicans. New Mexicans must continue to stay home in order to slow the spread of this incredibly contagious virus – there is no way to safely reopen the state without first doing so.”

But on Saturday, a far-left group, the “Party for Socialism and Liberation” had a protest of their own, demanding free rent and mortgage payments apparently from the government due to “the worst health crisis that we’ll ever experience in our generation.”

The socialist group of protesters had printed signs taped to their cars reading, “If we can’t work, we can’t pay rent or mortgage” with a link to “CancelTheRents.org.”

The demands were written on the website, “Cancel the Rents,” as follows:

1. A national cancellation of all rents, mortgages for homeowners, small landlords and small business, for the duration of the Pandemic.

2. No shutoff of gas, electricity and water utilities, the restoration of utilities for households that are currently shut off for lack of ability to pay, no accumulation of debt.

3. Eminent domain over vacant buildings, homes, hotels, all appropriate structures to house the homeless or people in precarious housing situations, including the undocumented and victims of domestic violence.

The protest by the fringe socialist group appears not to have caught the eye of Gov. Grisham who is a supporter of sanctuary cities and giving rights to criminal aliens, as the socialist group shares in common. 

The Governor’s office could not be reached for comment on the Party for Socialism and Liberation protest, despite her office giving one regarding the pro-business protest on Friday.

MLG, City of ABQ deny reports of airlifting AZ COVID-19 patients to NM for treatment

On Monday, there was confusion on social media about a report from AZ Central claiming COVID-19 patients from Arizona would be air-lifted to New Mexico for treatment. According to the report, patients would be flown in at Mile Stadium in Albuquerque to receive care from New Mexico health care facilities. 

KIVA radio show host Eddy Aragon of the “Rock of Talk” visited the helipad on Monday, getting on video the newly-painted helipad and newly-implemented asphalt parking lines for ambulances. He spoke with some alleged healthcare workers who told him they were from Presbyterian and said he was being “disrespectful” for going to the scene.

But since Aragon’s report, the AZ Central article was updated, claiming patients will not for sure be sent from Arizona, but that “the helipad has been built in case of a surge of patients.”

When asked on Twitter if patients from Arizona would be flown into Albuquerque for treatment, the City of Albuquerque flatly denied the claim, writing, “The news article published regarding this was in error. There are no plans to airlift patients from Arizona to Albuquerque.”

According to a report from KOB 4 News, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office also denied that Arizona patients would not be flown to New Mexico for treatment. “It’s a part of transporting patients within New Mexico when the surge hits,” the spokesperson said.
