Heinrich praised Biden’s accomplishments, stating, “Joe Biden is one of the most accomplished presidents in modern history. He has led our nation through unprecedented challenges with unwavering dedication and profound integrity.” 

However, Heinrich stressed the urgency of the current political climate, emphasizing the need for a candidate capable of defeating Donald Trump, who he described as an “existential danger to our democracy.” Heinrich concluded, “While the decision to withdraw from the campaign is President Biden’s alone, I believe it is in the best interests of our country for him to step aside.”

This call comes amid growing concerns among Democratic lawmakers about Biden’s age and electability, particularly following a poor debate performance against Trump. Heinrich’s statement aligns with a broader narrative among some Democrats advocating for a fresh candidate to enhance the party’s chances in the upcoming election.

In the comments of his post, leftists accused the Democrat senator of “bending the knee to corporate interests,” with one commenter writing, “You just lost a long time supporter! I am 1000% behind President Biden!” 

“Yep, nothing like a corporate Dino to recommend peoples vote should be discarded for the oligarchy.  Well, they did allocate $34 trillion for themselves,” wrote another.

One constituent added, “I am one of your voting constituents. Please stop.  Support President Biden.  He CAN win. But you need to get behind him instead of failing him.  It is NOT In the best interests of the country for him to withdraw.  Primary voters chose him, not donors.”

“Unfollowed. No more campaign contributions,” one wrote, while another far-left Democrat concluded, “I couldn’t disagree more. President Biden can stand on his record and his accomplishments. He is going to win unless all of you white Senators abandon the base. It’s looks bad no matter what your perspective is. This looks bad.”

Heinrich, who is running for reelection against Republican challenger Nella Domenici, faces a tight race in New Mexico, a state that is poised to be highly competitive in the upcoming elections. Domenici has criticized the Democratic Party’s current leadership, citing issues such as inflation and border security as failures of the Biden administration.

Domenici sets NM fundraising record with massive haul

Nella Domenici is making waves as she strives to become the first Republican to win a Senate seat in New Mexico in over two decades. Her campaign has announced a record-breaking $2.9 million fundraising haul for the April-June second quarter of 2024, which they claim is “the largest fundraising quarter of any U.S. Senate candidate in New Mexico political history.”

This impressive sum was raised by Domenici’s Senate campaign and its associated joint fundraising committees, and the figures were shared exclusively with Fox News on Friday.

New Mexico hasn’t seen a Republican Senate victory since Sen. Pete Domenici, Nella’s father, was re-elected to his sixth term in 2002. Now, Nella Domenici is determined to end this long-standing losing streak for the GOP.

“The momentum is growing, the movement is building, and our state is ready for new leadership,” Domenici said in a statement. “New Mexico is at a tipping point and I’m grateful to all of those who are rallying behind our campaign to demand more for our state and our nation.”

Domenici’s latest fundraising total is more than double the $1.25 million she raised in the first quarter of 2024. Her campaign also reported having over $2 million in cash on hand at the beginning of July.

Using her strong political brand and name recognition, Domenici is challenging Democrat Sen. Martin Heinrich, who is seeking his third six-year term. Heinrich raised $1.5 million in the first quarter of the year but has yet to announce his second-quarter fundraising results.

Domenici is leveraging her extensive experience in the finance industry, having held significant positions at Bridgewater Associates, Credit Suisse, and Citadel Investment Group, to bolster her campaign against Heinrich.

In recent years, New Mexico has shifted from a battleground state to a more reliably blue state. Heinrich won re-election in 2018 by over 30 points, and Joe Biden carried the state by 11 points in 2020.

However, the political climate may be shifting. Following Biden’s lackluster performance in a recent debate with 45th President Trump, there have been increasing calls within his own party for Biden to reconsider his re-election bid. This turmoil presents an opportunity for the GOP to make gains in New Mexico and other states.

Heinrich panned by all sides for ‘chikens**t’ statement on Biden

In the most confusing statement imaginable, New Mexico’s far-left Democrat Sen. Martin Heinrich released a statement on the status of Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities following the elderly Democrat’s disastrous debate performance against 45th President Donald Trump on CNN.

Heinrich, who has long been a Biden apologist, wrote, “I love Joe Biden. He’s the most accomplished President of my lifetime and he’s a genuinely wonderful human being.”

He added a caveat, noting, “However, what I care most about is the preservation of our democracy. President Biden needs to continue to demonstrate that his debate performance was just a bad night, and that he has a clear path to defeating Donald Trump. Our democracy hangs in the balance.”

The carefully worded statement that said much of nothing gives Heinrich an out if the political tides turn and he has to shift to calling for Biden’s replacement, as many Democrats, including U.S. Sen. Pattie Murray of Washington, suggest in their carefully worded statements. 

Following the non-statement after almost two weeks of dodging, the Republican Party of New Mexico’s Chairman, Steve Pearce, wrote, “Senator Heinrich’s vague statement reveals the havoc that has descended upon the Democratic Party. Heinrich’s previous blind loyalty to Biden and his special interest groups now makes it difficult for him to answer honestly about the President’s mental and physical ability to lead the country.”

The Republican official added, “New Mexicans deserve leadership with the courage to say it like it is and put the best interests of our state and nation first.”

The senator’s statement was widely panned in the comment section of his X post, with leftists and conservatives all commenting that either Biden needs to drop out or that Biden will lose to Trump. Some have even gone so far as to call the statement “chickens**t.”

New pre-debate poll is great news for NM Republicans

A new internal poll from Republican U.S. Senate candidate Nella Domenici’s campaign shows New Mexico is very much in play in November, with Republicans barely trailing Democrats. The poll, which was taken before Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance, is great news for Republicans, who have not won a statewide New Mexico race in a decade.

The poll, reported by the National Journal, shows Domenici’s 42.2% barely trailing Heinrich’s 45.5% by 3.3%, while 9.7% remain undecided. 

“In the presidential race, Joe Biden led Donald Trump in a theoretical head-to-head election in New Mexico, 49%-47%,” wrote the National Journal’s Zac Weisz.

Weisz noted that “this poll was taken before the debate (June 19-24). The poll includes 600 likely voters, and the margin of error was +/-4.0%” 

A previous poll showed Domenici trailing Heinrich by single digits, validating that New Mexico is very much in play in 2024, with Democrats having a steep climb in the Land of Enchantment to cling to power. 

Following the presidential debate, an “eye-popping” poll from CBS News/YouGov revealed that only 27% of respondents believed that Biden “possesses the necessary mental strength needed for the grueling duties of the commander-in-chief, marking a drop in the finding from just over two weeks ago (35% ‘does,’ to 65% ‘does not’),” as reported by the New York Post.

Democrats across the board have widely condemned Biden’s performance during the debate, with many, including the leftist New York Times, calling for his replacement on the ticket. The Biden White House has pushed back on the reports, affirming that the 81-year-old Democrat will remain on the Democrat Party’s presidential ticket in November.

On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich’s attempt to ban so-called “bump stocks,” claiming the accessory turns rifles  into “automatic weapons.”

He said, “I know there are those who say, ‘Guns don’t kill people; people kill people,’” adding, “But the reality is this: Bump stocks kill and injure hundreds.”

Heinrich, who claims to have used guns for hunting, sport, and self-defense (despite not knowing the difference between an elk and a bighorn sheep), stated, “Bump stocks serve no legitimate purpose.”

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that bump stocks should not be banned, per a previous federal decision.

Heinrich urged his colleagues to pass the Banning Unlawful Machinegun Parts (BUMP) Act through unanimous consent, a method that allows a measure to pass as long as no senator objects. 

However, Sen. Pete Ricketts from Nebraska objected on behalf of Republicans, labeling it a “show vote,” which it was.

Ricketts argued, “The majority leader knows this bill will not pass. It won’t pass because enough people in this building still believe in the Constitution, and the Constitution affords Americans the right to own a firearm. This vague, overreaching bill directly infringes upon that right.”

Heinrich stressed the supposed urgency of congressional action, declaring, “We need to pass this ban on bump stocks right away.”

Despite the measure failing miserably, Heinrich vowed that this issue would not disappear from the Senate’s agenda, asserting that the BUMP Act is a measure of “commonsense gun safety legislation,” which by definition goes against the U.S. Constitution, which Heinrich swore to uphold.

Far-left Sen. Martin Heinrich, who is campaigning for a third term this November, has criticized his Republican opponent, former hedge fund executive Nella Domenici, for her Wall Street connections. Despite this, according to Federal Election Commission filings reviewed by the Washington Examiner, Heinrich has received significant donations from financial industry political action committees and executives from private equity, hedge funds, and venture capital firms.

Over the past decade, PACs associated with major banks have contributed more than $330,000 to Heinrich’s campaign and leadership PAC. Additionally, Heinrich has accepted at least $450,000 from executives at influential firms. This includes donations from executives at top firms such as Bain Capital, Blackrock, Blackstone, Lone Pine Capital, and Schooner Capital.

This could expose Heinrich to Republicans’ accusations of hypocrisy as he campaigns against Domenici. In a recent fundraising email, Heinrich criticized Domenici for “making the ultra-wealthy wealthier,” referencing her financial disclosure that she and her husband hold up to $94 million in assets.

Domenici’s background includes working at Bridgewater Associates, Citadel, Credit Suisse, and other companies. She is also the daughter of the late former New Mexico Republican Sen. Pete Domenici.

Heinrich has made pointed remarks about Domenici on social media, suggesting that her career path to the U.S. Senate follows a history of profiting at the expense of American workers. He reiterated his stance in a fundraising email, asserting that he is “not in this fight to prop up Wall Street.”

Despite his critiques, Heinrich’s campaign continues to receive support from executives and corporate PACs, including UBS, the American Bankers Association, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo. Heinrich’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment on these donations.

Nella Domenici launches second TV ad

On Tuesday, U.S. Senate candidate Nella Domenici, the Republican nominee who hopes to defeat Democrat Sen. Martin Heinrich in November, launched her second ad of the campaign cycle, focusing on introducing herself to New Mexico voters.

“Growing up, Nella blazed her own trail,” the ad explains, showing Domenici hiking in New Mexico. “Set her sights on law school, took night classes, and paid her own way. Graduated business school nine months pregnant — top of her class.” 

The ad shows photos of her education experience and then explains, “‘Mom’ was Nella’s most important title while she forged new paths in business and community, breaking down barriers and driving innovative solutions. It’s time to do the same for New Mexico. There are mountains of problems. We need an experienced leader to fix them.”

“The journey to getting New Mexico back on top will not be easy and requires experienced leadership- not the two decades of failed leadership we see in my opponent,” Domenici wrote in an X post, introducing the ad. “I look forward to demanding more and delivering for New Mexico in the United States Senate.”

A recent Red Oak Strategies poll of 1,800 New Mexico voters showed Domenici only three points away from Heinrich, indicating the viability of her campaign. However, Domenici closed this gap when respondents heard positive information about her and negative messages about Heinrich.

In Domeinici’s first ad, she focused on her deep New Mexico roots, growing up on Monroe Street in Albuquerque. 

Following the news of Domenici’s new ad, Heinrich wrote in a panic-stricken fundraising email, “John, my multimillionaire opponent is back on the air this week with a brand-new TV ad. She’s paying $250,000 to reach voters with her ad statewide this week. This news comes right after a poll showed our Senate race in a dead heat. As my opponent reaches voters statewide, it’s never been more important that folks across New Mexico know what our grassroots campaign stands for every day.”

The Democrat accused Domenici of putting “Wall Street profit” above voters due to Domenici’s successful business career for Fortune 500 companies. In contrast, Heinrich has been in elected office for decades and lives in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Since Pete Domenici’s victory in 2002, no Republican has secured a U.S. Senate seat in New Mexico. Currently, Republicans are hopeful that Domenici’s daughter, Nella Domenici, a former CFO at Bridgewater Associates and a newcomer to politics, might challenge Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich.

While this race isn’t a primary focus for Senate Republicans, who are directing most of their efforts towards states like West Virginia, Ohio, and Montana, Nella Domenici’s potential financial backing and favorable political conditions could make the contest more competitive than expected.

A Red Oak Strategies poll conducted for Domenici and the National Republican Senatorial Committee indicates that she has the potential to grow her support base in the months leading up to Election Day. The poll, based on a survey of 1,800 registered voters, shows that while 66% of New Mexicans are unfamiliar with Nella, 46% recall her father, Pete Domenici, positively and support her candidacy. “This is a huge advantage as the campaign begins to deliver Nella’s message across direct voter contact platforms,” noted her team in a strategy memo shared with the National Review.

The poll revealed Heinrich leading Domenici by only three points among likely voters, within a 2.3 percent margin of error. However, Domenici closed this gap when respondents heard positive information about her and negative messages about Heinrich.

Despite New Mexico’s strong Democrat leaning and expectations of an easy win for Heinrich, as indicated by forecasters like Sabato’s Crystal Ball and the Cook Political Report, Domenici’s campaign believes Joe Biden’s declining favorability ratings might negatively impact Heinrich. The strategy memo highlighted Biden’s 42% favorable and 56% unfavorable ratings compared to Trump’s 39% favorable and 59% unfavorable ratings, suggesting potential vulnerabilities for Democrats.

Domenici’s financial resources and business background, with experience at Bridgewater, Credit Suisse, and Citadel Investment Group, could prove advantageous, especially if she secures substantial contributions from Wall Street contacts. Notably, her latest Federal Election Commission report includes a donation from Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman.

If Domenici can improve her fundraising, which was around $1 million compared to Heinrich’s $4.4 million as of mid-May, Democrats might have to allocate more resources to defend Heinrich, diverting funds from more competitive battleground states.

Domenici launched her first campaign ad last month, and Heinrich responded with attacks this week. Her campaign plans to criticize Heinrich on energy policy, immigration, and public safety while adopting a centrist stance on abortion, opposing a federal ban on the procedure.

“Nella Domenici is well-positioned to take on Martin Heinrich and make this race competitive. New Mexico is a race to watch,” stated NRSC spokeswoman Maggie Abboud.

Heinrich’s team responded to the poll results in a fundraising email, calling it a “dead heat.” His team wrote, “This new poll is concerning enough. But the National Republican Senatorial Committee has put their full support behind Martin’s opponent and is calling New Mexico ‘a race to watch.’ NPR reports that the state has ‘pivotal races’ for the House and the Senate — including Martin’s — that could ‘help determine the control of those chambers.’”

Nella’s mother has been a prominent advocate for mental health. The Domenici family, including numerous siblings, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews, remains deeply rooted in the Albuquerque area.

Highlighting Nella’s professional achievements, the ad showcases her rise to the top in the finance industry while balancing the roles of wife and mother. This connection reinforces the deep-rooted dedication of the Domenici family to serving New Mexico.

As Nella Domenici challenges far-left Democrat Sen. Martin Heinrich, she aims to resonate with voters across New Mexico by drawing on her family’s history and her own professional and philanthropic experience. The ad shows a stark contrast to Heinrich, who lives in Maryland.

Triggered by the ad buy and attempting to defend its Silver Spring, Maryland-dwelling Heinrich, the Democrat Party of New Mexico quipped on X, “Multimillionaire former hedge fund executive Nella Domenici is spending half a million dollars to cover up a career of bad judgment calls and questionable values that belong on Wall Street, not in New Mexico.” It is interesting they used this line of attack, blasting Domenici for being a successful businesswoman despite their own incumbent’s choice of dwelling outside of the state he purportedly represents.

The upcoming U.S. Senate race in New Mexico has sparked intense debate, encapsulated by two dueling op-eds in the Albuquerque Journal from state representatives Gail Chasey and Jim Townsend. Both pieces reflect deep partisan divides and sharply different perceptions of the candidates, incumbent Democrat Sen. Martin Heinrich and Republican challenger Nella Domenici.

State Rep. Gail Chasey, a far-left Albuquerque Democrat, bends over backwards to prop up Sen. Heinrich’s record in a passionate piece. Chasey highlights Heinrich’s dedication to New Mexico, stating he “knows every nook and cranny of New Mexico” and has a track record of delivering “billions of dollars in federal investments,” despite Heinrich’s primary residence being in Maryland and every U.S. congressional representative and senator bringing money to the state. 

She praises his efforts in securing funding for infrastructure projects across the state, including water and sewer lines in Chama and a mental health clinic in Santa Teresa. Chasey asserts, “Heinrich’s ability to navigate the complexities of federal funding mechanisms and deliver concrete results demonstrates his effectiveness as a leader who puts the needs of New Mexicans first.”

Chasey contrasts Heinrich’s supposed extensive experience in Washington, D.C. with what she claims is Domenici’s lack thereof, arguing that Domenici, despite her impressive decades-long business background, “lacks a substantive record of public service, tangible accomplishments, or even a cursory knowledge of the state.” That could, very well, be the point of Domenici’s run — not being a career politician or Santa Fe/Washington, D.C. insider. 

On the flip side, State Rep. Jim Townsend, a Republican from Artesia, offers a starkly different view. He reminisces about Nella’s father, the late Sen. Pete Domenici, and criticizes Heinrich’s approach to governance by stating, “Martin Heinrich is no Pete Domenici.” Townsend accuses Heinrich of being “hands-off” in his responses to crises, notably in managing the aftermath of the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon wildfires, which he says led to “chaos, misery, and delay.”

Townsend praises Nella Domenici’s proactive approach, noting her quick action to meet with wildfire victims and her proposals for remediation. He commends her understanding of New Mexico’s energy needs, stating she, like her father, recognizes the importance of both traditional and renewable energy sources. Townsend criticizes Heinrich’s extreme focus on green energy as neglectful of the practical energy needs and economic realities of New Mexico.

Both op-eds vividly illustrate the high stakes and the sharp ideological contrasts at play in this Senate race. Chasey’s endorsement of Heinrich contrasts with Townsend’s portrayal of Domenici as a fresh, practical voice echoing her father’s legacy while bringing a new, amplified voice for New Mexico to the U.S. Senate.
