State-funded totalitarianism: Jabs required for events at The Pit

The University of New Mexico (UNM) has recently announced not only a mask mandate indoors at The Pit stadium, but a COVID shot mandate, throwing a wrench in the UNM games happening at the stadium.

The mandate requires either a negative COVID-19 test or a shot.

“The university has a responsibility to our student athletes, coaches, staff and the thousands of passionate Lobo fans, to do what we can to protect the health and safety of those competing, coaching, working, watching, and cheering the game,” athletics director Eddie Nuñez said in the news release.

“We ask for your understanding and patience as the new requirements are implemented,” he added. “… Please help us keep our student-athletes and everyone in our community safe.”

The next big event at The Pit is on Tuesday where the Lobo men’s basketball team is hosting Norfolk State at 7 p.m. It is unclear if a jab will be required for that game. After Christmas, The Lobos’ next game is Dec. 28 at 9 p.m. in the Mountain West Conference opener against Colorado State.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, “UNM has an annual athletics budget of roughly $31 million to $32 million, of which 25%-30% a year comes via institutional support from such sources as university subsidies, student fees and state appropriations,” meaning taxpayers are funding the jab mandate, which many New Mexicans claim is unconstitutional.

  1. BOYCOTT ALL FUNCTIONS AT THE PIT

Time to completely boycott UNM, the PIT, all functions from UNM. Bleed them dry. Parents need to never allow their children to get uneducated and indoctrinated by UNM, evil resides there.

  2. I got a Master of Arts from UNM but I don’t advertise it. I went to UNM because I couldn’t go out of state. They haven’t changed in 40+ years. I never recommend UNM to anyone.

  3. We, as a group, need to stop supporting UNM with our attendance regardless of your vaccination status. It is not UNM’s concern or business to know what our vaccination status is.

  4. Wasn’t planning to visit the pit. Looks like a superspreader for the jabbed to me.

It’s just another reason of many to tell my kids to never go to that sorry excuse of a school and leave NM.

  5. What a disgraceful overreach of authority! UNM is NOT New York City where citizens must provide proof of COVID vaccinations before entering restaurants and other businesses. Why not simply require fans to wear masks except when they are eating food or drinking beverages?

  6. NMSU just announced they would take punitive action, including termination, of any employees who were not fully vaccinated AND had not gotten the booster shot by early February.

  7. One of the great tragedies of the pandemic will be the realization that many people simply cannot discern politics from science. When we confuse concepts of basic facts disease transmission with abstract concepts like liberty, people die. Charitably one might say people are ignorant but honestly it’s just stupidity. Wise up people.
