FALSE: MLG’s office claims lines of people waiting outside of grocery stores just GOP ‘talking points’

On Sunday, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office claimed that people being forced to stand in long lines outside of “essential businesses” such as Walmart, Albertsons, Costco, and other locations due to her public health orders restricting grocery stores were just “Republican talking points” that were “politically motivated.”

The Associated Press reported, “More than 20 essential businesses across the state were shut down as of Friday, of which nearly half were grocery stores or major retailers. The closures include two Walmarts in Albuquerque, a Walmart in Santa Fe, a Target in Santa Fe, and an Albertson’s in Roswell.” The shortage is causing a backlog at other grocery stores, which are limited by how many people can be inside at any current time. This is forcing New Mexicans to stand in lines outside for up to two hours.

The Governor’s office further claimed, “The state is not forcing anyone to stand in a crowded line, as you suggest.” These claims were untrue and easily disprovable

However, the Governor’s office is dead wrong. Below are countless examples of places across New Mexico where citizens were forced to stand in long lines. Upon the news that limits of 75 people inside each store, retailers pre-emptively began limiting capacities to begin compliance with the mandate. Below is photographic proof of the lines across the state:

On November 22, 2020, another reader writes, “Just left Sams on Renaissance, we waited about 40-45 minutes to get into a store thee at t was practically void of people! Btw, that was our third store, the lines at Walmart and Costco were longer.”

People are still sending in photographs from across New Mexico, where citizens have, indeed, been forced to stand in lines and wait for anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours just to buy basic household items and food before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The New Mexico Republican Party opined on the Governor’s lie, inviting her to visit grocery stores where New Mexicans are in long lines to get groceries.

The statements from the Governor’s office are not only inaccurate, they are ignoring reality. These people standing in line are not “Republican talking points.” It should be noted that people from San Juan County, Bernalillo, Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, Otero, Doña Ana, and every other county in-between are suffering due to these health orders, and they are by no means an anomaly. These are real New Mexicans forced to stand in lines because of the Governor’s health order, period.

  1. Thought I could beat the rush by going Sunday morning to the Smith’s in Edgewood. Nope, still a line for my turn to get in.

  2. I don’t have pictures, but I will swear in a court of law that this past Friday (11-20-2020) the line in front of the Smith’s at Tramway and Central went from the door to the South corner of the building.

  3. MLG wants us to be safe. It was cold Saturday Morning waiting in line at Sams for 1hr 45 min. On top of that Sams has an employee walking the line. If you sign up for a Sams credit card. You can go in and shop right away. You will not need to stay in line. What gives? MLG wants us not to be sick well I think this is way people are getting sick.

  6. What a despicable thing to say. Apparently she does not do her own shopping, and she is still collecting her salary so she doesn’t feel a thing. I did not vote for her, and I can hardly wait for the opportunity to vote her out of office.

  7. YES, LINES IN MY TOWN FOR THE GROCERY STORES.
ML GRISHAM LIES. Maybe she’s in Hawaii hanging out with Obamas trying to get her future promotion. AUDIT the election. We went red.

  8. This gov does not care about anyone in NM only her own agenda….she has shown her true colors and will go down in history as the gov in NM….im surprised someone hasn’t attacked her for this shit….oh yeah that’s right she hides in her basement like diden and the rest do….keep showing those colors guv’na…..you show them well!!

  9. Everywhere I have attempted to shop over the last 5 days has had long lines outside. The governor needs to get out of her cave more often & see what’s going on.

  10. It brings back visions of bread lines in the Soviet Union. I see from the pictures that people are wearing their masks. But with the new restrictions, I guess that wearing masks is not working when we go buy food. So why are we required to wear masks? It is all a power thing. Even Biden has come put saying he will not force shutdowns.

  11. The long lines at New Mexico’s look like scenes from Socialist Venezuela. Grisham’s goal is to turn us into a mini Venezuela..😭

  12. yea so dumb are governor is the stupidest one i have even seen i stood in line for a hour and it was cold outside let’s get sick out side while we wait to go inside fricking bull shit

  13. Listen to all the Republicans complaining about having to stand in line to get food. Now remember this would have never happened if some MAGA id10ts hadn’t made wearing a mask or social distancing a political issue. In the name of freedom? Ha! See how free we are now? We can’t even leave the country. All you have to do is abide by the public health orders, wear the mask, and we won’t have to go through this again.

And by the way, since when do Republicans ever give a flip about poor people going hungry? Where was the outrage before this happened?

    1. Oh, Joan, you unfortunate sheep. Covid-19 has a 99% survival rate, you typically have to be tested for it to even know you have it, those tests are highly flawed and return false positives at an alarming rate anyway, and wearing a mask wouldn’t do squat even if the virus were something to be concerned about.

Also, mental midget, you may wanna bone up on how the Government works, and while you’re at it, you might wanna come back to reality where Republicans have been saying for months that we should end the lockdowns and let common sense prevail. The Federal Government has no power to enforce mandates on a state level. No, that’s down to our local Government, which at the moment happens to be Democrat. They’re the ones responsible for the lockdowns, the masks mandates, and the restrictions, which contrary to popular belief aren’t actually law. They have no power whatsoever to punish anyone, be they private citizen or business, for violating those mandates, and doing so as they’ve done is an abuse of power and a violation of our civil rights. Republicans have nothing to do with any of what’s going on here, and falsely accusing them of being responsible for it in the same post in which you chastise them for the imaginary crime of politicizing this virus (which your party absolutely has done) is as hypocritical as it is ignorant.

That you either aren’t aware of these things, or don’t care and true to Democrat nature can’t help but lie is disturbing.

  14. One of the freedoms we have in America, and not so much everywhere else, is the freedom of movement. We have been able to go safely and freely, especially when compared to other countries- until this year with the virus and riots. This should be a concern to you.

  23. Wuhan Lujan is destroying the state to help usher-in The Great Reset.

She’s shakin’ her globalist tail feathers for Joe Biden, hoping to get hired in his “BUILD BACK BETTER” administration, at which point she will bring these destructive, pro-China policies to the entire United States.

    TRUMP WON.

  26. Trying to get into a store today at 2:30 PM did not happen. The lines were crazy long at Costco on Renaissance, Target on Paseo, Trader Joe’s on Paseo and Ventura, and Walmart on Academy and Wyoming. I felt sorry for all the older people who have to stand so long just to get into a store that can easily accommodate them with social distancing. Waiting for hours just to get cough medicine or diapers just doesn’t make sense. We can do better. 75 people max for a Costco? Or a Walmart? Look at the lines! Does NOT make sense!

  28. all this mask wearing mandates and long lines are simply social conditioning preparing people for the coming communist state. All our so called leaders have been bought and paid for and have been selected through the same voter fraud that Biden is employing. The Governor is blatantly lying but enjoys the cover of a fawning communist media. Truth must prevail if this State and Country are ever to recover Gods blessing again.

  36. Absolutely NOT a “False” statement! Im disabled, currently here at a walmart in Las Cruces, NM and there IS lines as far as the eyes can see at both entrances..This is absolutely unnecessary and ridiculous!!!! Standing in lines with a hundred or more people in each line is im sure way more likely to contract a virus vs inside where the people are moving around getting in and out etc… vs standing in one spot for sometimes HOURS waiting to just get IN the store much closer together than they would be INSIDE!

  48. It is like this ALL ACROSS OUR NATION! NOT JUST in NM! Nearly EVERY SINGLE GOVERNOR & state public health agency in our nation has implemented this! Y’all are LUCKY, because in my state, ALL of our business, no matter WHAT THEY ARE, automatically HAVE to shut down if ONE EMPLOYEE TESTS POSITIVE! Everyone also needs to remember NEARLY ALL STORES HAVE BEEN HAVING BLACK FRIDAY RELEASE SALES ALL MONTH, in an attempt to AVOID THE CROWDS THIS YEAR!! Which has caused LONG LINES ACROSS THE NATION ALREADY!!! Take a look at NATIONAL NEWS ALSO!
