Interim NMSU president releases ‘spineless’ statement on Israel

New Mexico State University’s interim president, Jay Gogue, recently released a statement days after Israel was violently attacked by Hamas terrorists, leading to over 1,200 deaths.

Gogue wrote in a statement appearing to not side with Israel or the terrorists in the Gaza strip, writing in a statement labeled “Israel-Gaza Conflict,” “During the past few days, we have been hearing and reading about the escalation of the Israel-Gaza war.”

He added, “New Mexico State University is fortunate to have students, faculty, and staff from around the world, and acknowledge the direct and indirect impact this violence is having. Our thoughts are with those who are in the most need at this time—those who are experiencing anger, or pain, or worse.”

After the statement was released, former Congresswoman Yvette Herrell, a Republican who previously served the Second Congressional District, wrote, “This is beyond shameful.”

“One of the most spineless statements from higher education so far – and that’s saying a lot,” she added, telling NMSU, “Do better.”

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, has yet to respond to the terrorism unleashed upon Israel, with murdered and raped corpses being dragged through the streets by Hamas terrorists and countless Israelis kidnapped by the radical Islamic group.

  1. The hatred of the Hatfields and McCoys is not only found in the United States. The battle in Israel is thousands of years old.

One side wants what the other was blessed with and will do anything to take it for themselves. Palestinians do not care whose land they are on, their extremist hatred is not stopped by weakness. History proves this fact.

The education system is not going to support Israel. The social divide is what fuels the Left’s ideology. Hate works, and soft words will only allow extremists to hurt innocent Jews.

What is likely to occur in the United States as a result of this fued is not going to be easily controlled. Stay vigilent…

    1. Uh-huh. And exactly whose land is it they are on? You stay vigilent, Mario, the rest of us will remain vigilant.

      1. You left out the “e” Carlos, at the end…
Israel, for the most part, is on the land God gave them.
There is a particular historical book that account for every square mile of what shall be Israel.

        1. ROFL. Thanks, Mario, I needed a good belly laugh. So…you have actually conflated the modern State of Israel with Biblical Israel. Hilarious.

          1. Actually the Kingdom of David did exist. Believe or not believe the Bible. But there are no such people as “palestinians”. And muslims did not exist until 600AD. About 3000 years after the Jews actually lived in the area called Israel. If you think the American Indian had his land stolen then this also happened to the Jews. So, what is it?

          2. I have plenty more…
Also, Biblical Israel IS Israel. Too many ignore that part.
The State of Isreal is similar to the US is secular. That does not nullify the biblical blessing.

          3. Hillarious is not understanding one cannot separate modern Jew from Biblical. This doesn’t work like pronouns these days.

        2. Jesus is the NEW COVENANT for both JEW AND GENTILE.

          God destroyed the 2nd Temple.
There is no temple in Jerusalem.
          There are no animal sacrifices.

Jesus is THE ANSWER. It’s time to stop preaching bombs and land and preach the Gospel.

          1. I will say Amen to that you are right people just start listening guess what judgment day will be soon then they will listen

    2. Zionist Jews arrived in 1948 and declared the land shared by Christian’s, Jews and Muslims as theirs with the help of our country.

    3. You do Not speak for all New Mexicans. By Not supporting Israel you are supporting the terrorists, which I hope you understand what that word means. You can’t straddle this issue, either for the attacked innocent lives or the hatred, evil, disgusting, murderous, rapist, horrific, calculating people that take pleasure in their crimes and condemning and threatening Jewish, Christians, anyone not changing to their evil ways. And YOU brought it here.

    4. I’m Jewish. My parents came here in 1944 from Odessa. Odessa was part of the USSR, and now is part of Ukraine. When my parents came here the US was turning the ships, full of Eastern Europeans trying to escape the war away. The ships were not aloud to dock. Israel is being attacked again and as in WW2 the US is not standing up! What part of standing up for our friends doesn’t the University’s understand? What part of beheading infants do they condone? Or the raping of women? What about the burning people alive? The funding of the 2 universities, should be withheld based on their answers to the conflict in Israel.

  2. Right. Let’s ignore the decades of the murder of innocent Palestinians by the Israelis and their relegation to the equivalent of the Jewish ghettoes of Europe.

      1. Not at all, John. Please look at the rest of the comments and decide for yourself if the conversation is on a one-way track. It is not at all a “one-way thing”, John, and that is precisely my point.

      2. Well, John, after another day of reading these responses, in which direction would you say the “one-way” lies now?
Please note that nowhere did I express support for what is being reported out of Israel. Nowhere did I express support for terrorism, Islam or Palestinians. In fact, I am horrified by and regret what happened. It did not occur in a historical vacuum, though, and it is not as simple as declaring Palestinians as “evil” and Israelis as the “good people of the Promise”, although that explanation is the most satisfying to some folks. All it took was for a person to suggest that there is more to the story and you can see for yourself the response.

    1. Dear Carlos , what has happened to the Palestine people being murdered and they’re homes homes taken from them is wrong. I also believe what is happening now in Israel it’s monstrous. To go into a home and decapitate children behead them throw them out on the streets along with mothers and women being being raped 😭. I do believe that Palestine people should have their own country . Palestine people are Gods people too along with the Israel people. I just wish the two leaders woud come together and be serious on negotiations of land but for the people. I think it’s went too far I will end this by saying two wrongs do not make a right . The whole picture here as we forget this is God’s Earth not ours. Love and prayers to the world.

      1. Well, thank you RJ. Finally another reasonable response to this whole thing. I share your revulsion at what is being reported to have happened recently in Israel. I am not pro-Palestinian and I deplore what has happened. But I do not deplore it any more than I deplore the behavior of the Modern State of Israel over the last 75 years. there is more to this story than just “Palestinians bad, Israel good”, although that position is more comfortable for a lot of people.

        1. Humans are inherently evil. Modern or ancient, this battle is old and rooted in beliefs (faith). Any real avoidance or deflection to modern politics is just fodder in my opinion.

We do not need to look outside the US to see imoral politics. Thus, one needs not to look outside the Bible to find out the roots behind the hatred being seen on the world stage.

    2. ghetto is a Jewish term. This is a no brained. Slaughter is killing innocent people! You may point finger and blame either side. If you have a heart and not psychotic going in and mowing down unarmed children there is no way to justify those actions. I have a feeling this will finally be resolved when these radical religious groups get together and sit at the bargaining table.

  3. I think this Group Think is in most of our Universities in the USA, sad to say.

In the wake of Hamas’ brutal surprise attack against Israel, 34 Harvard student organizations recently signed a joint statement blaming Israel for the attack and expressing support for Palestine.

“We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence,” the letter read.

“The apartheid regime is the only one to blame. Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years.”

      1. Yes. The Jews blew it up and killed British people who had a mandate to rule “Palestine”. The Brits now recognize Israel as a country. Not an “occupier”. The people called “palestinians” came 3000 years too late to have any claim on the Jewish State.

  4. Supporting the Political Zionist state of Israel does not support jews. Preaching the Gospel and preaching Jesus is how you support jews.

      1. Thanks, JT. Your comments are appreciated. Zionism is an ideology unto itself. Deploring Zionism does not make one an “anti-semite”. In fact, I am aware of Orthodox Jews who oppose Zionism. Be assured that not all Christians confuse Zionism with Judaism or Netanyahu as sinless.

  5. The Jews are obviously and historically the “Indigenous People” of the areas now known as Israel and Palestine. The proof of ownership lies in the remains of the ancient temple in Jerusalem, destroyed by the Romans 2000 years ago. On “Indigenous Peoples Day”, let’s all support the Jews and their claims to their original indigenous homeland as confirmed by the United Nations in 1947.

    1. Hi Bob. You describe the founding of modern Israel in very strong words, like “obviously” and “proof”. You state that the UN “confirmed” the claim that this area of the world (known as “Palestine” to that same UN) in 1947 was ” original indigenous [Jewish] homeland”. Please do not regard my question as a challenge. I’d really like to understand what leads you to these conclusions. I assume you refer to Resolution 181. Correct me if I am wrong. Also, can you tell me if this area was uninhabited when the Israelites arrived there after the Exodus, or are you dating their indegeneity to another era?
