The fringe group, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), is attacking Otero County again. This time, the extremist dark money organization is triggered after the announcement Alamogordo’s Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center (GCRMC) is joining the CHRISTUS Health group, which is Catholic. The health group, which is based in Irving, Texas, runs 600 successful facilities in the country, including in Santa Fe, many of them being top-rated.
GCRMC CEO Jim Heckert said the merger would create $100 million in new investment over the next decade.
In a hostage letter typical of the group, the ACLU claimed the hospital’s merger must incorporate abortions and “LGBTQ+ inclusive” services, “including gender affirming care for transgender patients, and end-of-life care options.”
“We firmly believe in the fundamental right to religious exercise and expression, and we have a long history of defending that right,” claimed ACLU’ of New Mexico’s “Reproductive Rights and Gender Equity” managing attorney Ellie Rushforth.
“However, religious freedom does not give a health care system the right to limit information and access to basic health care by imposing a narrow set of directives on everyone. The hospital should seek feedback from their community and take more time to consider the potential risks posed by this transaction to their patients and health care providers.”
Religious freedom guarantees a private non-profit hospital to do whatever it so chooses regarding its beliefs. But the ACLU believes that “religious exercise” in America now must be limited if that religious belief includes pro-life, anti-transgenderism aspects.
At a recent meeting, the Otero County Commission met to reject a proposal to involve the state attorney general in investigating the merger. Instead, the Commission is working on a letter of support for the hospital’s union with CHRISTUS.
We have very scary “new” freedoms. The freedom to murder and mutilate in the name of healthcare. I liked our old freedoms of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Life in the womb until natural death is a moral issue. Transgenderism at a young age is a moral issue. Agnostic, Atheists and all religions believe that life is valuable. Late term abortion is cruel and inhumane. Those who seek to transgender should make that decision at 18 not a child who has no idea of the collateral damage he will face in the future. The ACLU is a leftist extremist group that seeks to destroy our Constitution. They along with the SPLC should be labeled as such.
Promoting and performing experimental surgeries and destructive hormone injections should be banned.
Another example of the lies of the left, with incremental destruction of our Republic. Roe v Wade was to legalize abortion “not as a means of birth control but as a last resort, for the protection of the mother” and see where that has led us.

Pretty sad that end of life care and tubal ligations are in jeopardy in our county. What about religious freedom?
If I go to a doctor and ask him or her to castrate me me and they do it, is that legal? Or if I ask them to cut off my leg or arm? Is that legal, just because I am over the age of 18?

WRONG!!! That is one of the basis of the Catholic Church. They will never limit us. They are not God. We can do whatever we want and are protected by Civil Rights. If they don’t like it they should go to another hospital that promotes taking life. We will fight those satanist. Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-a are closed on Sunday because of their religion. Are they going to protest them too? They obviously are twisted and have one-sided views. They actually sent me, who is devout Catholic and Republican a donation form. I know another group that was anti-semantic and also believed in killing babies the national socialist party. Remember this a lot of coins say “In God We Trust.”
