Vasquez claims it’s racist to criticize his extreme far-left record

In a recent Roll Call interview, New Mexico Democrat Rep. Gabe Vasquez attempted to reframe growing criticism of his radical political record, claiming it stems from his identity as a “Hispanic male.” He told the publication, “They used misinformation to paint me as an extremist,” adding, “I think so much of that was really … them wanting to discredit me as a Hispanic male.”

But as scrutiny of his positions intensifies, the facts show Vasquez is far from the moderate image he attempts to portray — instead aligning himself with some of the most extreme factions in Congress on issues ranging from border security to energy policy.

Vasquez represents New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District — a vast, working-class, majority Latino district in the southern and western part of the state that President Trump carried in 2024. Yet despite the district’s conservative lean, Vasquez has toed the party line with shocking consistency. According to Roll Call, “a CQ Roll Call analysis of his 2024 voting record found that on votes that split the parties, Vasquez stuck with House Democrats 87.2 percent of the time.” Even more strikingly, “on House votes on which President Joe Biden took a position, Vasquez sided with him 91.7 percent of the time.” Only 57 House Democrats voted with Biden more often.

That makes Vasquez one of the most extreme partisan members in a seat that is supposed to be one of the most competitive in the country. And despite running as a “moderate,” his record tells a different story.

Vasquez has attacked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and called to dismantle the southern border wall. “Time to take down the wall that’s been financed and is being constructed with illegal funds,” he said in a now-deleted tweet. He has harshly criticized law enforcement agencies charged with border security, all while falsely claiming to be a pragmatist on immigration.

His views on energy are no less radical. While the 2nd District is home to the oil- and gas-rich Permian Basin — one of the largest energy-producing regions in the world — Vasquez has aligned himself with Green New Deal-style policies that threaten the livelihoods of thousands. Although he has occasionally paid lip service to oilfield jobs, his consistent support for environmental restrictions and climate change mandates sends a clear message. Roll Call quoted him saying: “I’m not here to take any of that away. What I am here to do is to say, ‘How can we do this better? How can we do this cleaner?’” — a phrase that many in the industry view as code for more regulations and fewer jobs.

In addition to his troubling policy stances, Vasquez’s personal history also includes legal red flags. He failed to appear in court for driving without a license, resulting in an outstanding arrest warrant that remained active for over a decade until March 2024 — after he was elected to Congress. This negligence raises questions about his respect for the law and accountability.

On gun rights, Vasquez has also taken a far-left turn. After a shooting in Las Cruces, he used the tragedy to call for sweeping federal gun control laws, including mandatory gun storage laws that many believe violate Second Amendment protections.

While Roll Call portrays him as trying to avoid “conflict with Republicans or folks who voted for Trump,” Vasquez undermines his own case with his hyper-partisan voting record and out-of-step positions. Still, he blames Republican attacks on his background: “They used misinformation to paint me as an extremist,” he told Roll Call, adding, “I think so much of that was really… them wanting to discredit me as a Hispanic male.”

But in a district that has flipped five times since 2008 and was carried by Donald Trump in 2024, voters are less likely to be concerned about Vasquez’s ethnicity than his record of extremism. With the National Republican Congressional Committee targeting the seat in 2026 and local GOP leaders calling the district “definitely flippable,” Vasquez’s far-left record may prove politically toxic.

As Roll Call notes, “The strategy that Vasquez should take as a Democrat in a Trump district would be exactly what he’s doing: filtering out the national scandals and focusing on what he can do for [his] constituents.” Yet, with his policies consistently aligned with the most progressive elements in Washington, voters in New Mexico’s 2nd District may soon decide that what Vasquez is doing is not what they want.

Antifa, socialists flip out, form tiny protest to Santa Fe detransitioners panel

Tensions flared Thursday night outside La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe as a detransitioners panel sparked small protests from local fringe groups, including Antifa and the Democratic Socialists of America. Partners for Ethical Care organized the event, which featured six individuals who halted or reversed their gender transition.

It drew a group of counterprotesters, including members of “Rainbow Liberation ABQ” and the Santa Fe Democratic Socialists of America, who marched with pride flags and chanted slogans like “Trans rights are human rights” and “Boycott La Fonda.”

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and City Councilor Alma Castro voiced concerns about the event, with Castro stating, “Santa Fe is an inclusive, beautiful city where people should feel safe and welcomed, and misinformation is not something that is good for our community.”

It is unclear what Lujan Grisham is claiming is “misinformation,” as the speakers merely chose not to continue the surgeries and treatments to artificially alter their femininity or masculinity. The governor recently signed a bill to put tampons in public school boys’ bathrooms.

Sarah Smith, co-leader of the New Mexico Freedoms Alliance, defended the panel, saying it aimed to raise awareness about the regret some individuals experience after transitioning. “I’m hoping that more people will be able to then think a little bit more carefully about this issue because the risks of this type of health care are really being downplayed,” she said.

“Apparently LGBT voices only matter when they parrot the accepted dogma. Those who were irreparably harmed and maimed by the gender cult are expected to shut up and take it,” she wrote. Here’s how antifa operates: they come up and get right in your face, standing as close as physically possible to you while insulting you. These cowards won’t even show their faces.”

“They tried to intimidate me by repeatedly calling me by name, talking about my family, and making veiled threats towards me and my children. When that didn’t work, they started the wild accusations about ped*philia and collusion with Russians…. Wow, these people are unhinged.  All while hiding behind their masks.”

“LGBTQ+” advocates, including Michael Trimm from the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico, criticized the event as a tactic to spread fear and misinformation. Trimm emphasized that the vast majority of transgender individuals do not regret transitioning, citing a 2021 study that found only 1% of individuals who transition experience regret.

However, according to the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute, “A new study from the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law finds that 81% of transgender adults in the U.S. have thought about suicide, 42% of transgender adults have attempted it, and 56% have engaged in non-suicidal self-injury over their lifetimes.”

The radicalized protesters also caused some disruption at La Fonda, with Señor Murphy Candymaker closing early due to safety concerns. The hotel allowed the event to proceed despite pushback, with Rik Blyth, president of La Fonda Hospitality Group, noting the decision was made following legal advice.

Reflecting on the controversy, Jennifer Kimball, chairman emerita of the hotel’s board, said, “This is an anathema to me… but as an owner of La Fonda, I am neutral.”

NM Dems select far-leftist as nominee for state legislative seat

Sarah Silva, a socialist “community organizer” from Las Cruces, New Mexico, has been unanimously selected as the Democratic nominee for New Mexico House District 53, located in Doña Ana and Otero Counties, after a closed-door meeting of Democrats who did not include any from Otero County to vote in Silva’s selection.

Following the selection, Silva wrote via Facebook, “I’m honored to have the trust of our party, and ready to shift my focus to making sure this seat stays in Democratic hands. I want to thank the SCC members for the trust they placed in me and for honoring the late Dr. Jon Hill’s wishes and legacy.”

The installation of Silva came after the death of Jon Hill, who was the Democrat nominee for the seat after beating incumbent Willie Madrid in the primary. He endorsed Silva before his death.

Silva is known for her fringe, far-left activism and her leadership of NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fé (CAFe), an organization she founded in 2009.

NM CAFe claims to be a faith-based advocacy group that purports to mobilize communities to address issues of social justice, economic inequality, and “immigrant rights,” which is just a front to harbor criminal aliens who broke laws to flood into the state illegally through the southern border with Mexico.

Her work also involved collaboration with larger national networks, such as “Faith in Action” (formerly PICO), where she continued to champion far-left “progressive” causes.

Under Silva’s leadership, NM CAFe took on issues ranging from pushing abortion to supporting illegal immigration.

Silva’s approach to activism and community building is deeply aligned with radical left-wing ideologies, emphasizing her intent to “dismantle” systems that she claims are racist and unequitable. One of these extremist policies she champions is universal health care.

The socialist will face off in November against Elizabeth Winterrowd, who previously lost the seat to Madrid by the narrowest of margins in 2022.

MLG signs socialist ‘free college’ bill costing taxpayers $75M annually

On Friday, scandal-ridden alleged serial groper Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed S.B. 140, which would create a mammoth $75 million per year recurring expense to the state’s taxpayers to fund “free college” through what is being called the “Opportunity Scholarship.”

The far-left bill, which does not include any limits on “free” tuition is forcing taxpayers to shell out even more money. And the merits required to receive the tuition are embarrassingly low, only requiring a 2.5-grade point average, which means students can get low grades and still have their tuition covered.

“SB140 does not provide a semester or year limit on funding. Rather, the program allows funding up to 90 or 160 hours until the student completes an undergraduate degree or degrees,” analysis for the bill reads.

It should be noted that all representatives who voted for the Democrats’ far-left $8.5 billion budget voted for funding this “free” college initiative by passing the budget. Those representatives include Republicans, such as Gail Armstrong (Magdalena), Brian Baca (Valencia), Rachel Black (Alamogordo), Jack Chatfield (Tucumcari), Kelly Fajardo (Tome-Adelino), Joshua Hernandez (Rio Rancho), T. Ryan Lane (Aztec), Bill Rehm (Albuquerque), Luis Terrazas (Bayard), and Jane Powdrell-Culbert (Corrales).

According to the fiscal impact report for S.B. 140, “House Bill 2 as passed out of the Senate Finance Committee also contains $63 million in nonrecurring funding and $12 million recurring funding for the opportunity scholarship program. Altogether, that would leave the new opportunity scholarship fund with approximately $99.5 million.”

Lujan Grisham had a photo-op at Western New Mexico University in Silver City to sign the legislation, joined by far-left advocates of the fiscally irresponsible bill that is a slap in the face to people who paid their way through college without a socialist program’s help.

“Saddling students with insurmountable debt means they can’t start businesses, can’t buy houses; they don’t have real choices about their future,” claimed Lujan Grisham.

Republicans who voted for the actual free college bill include Reps. Gail Armstrong (Magdalena), Brian Baca (Valencia), Kelly Fajardo (Tome-Adelino), Jason Harper (Rio Rancho), and Luis Terrazas (Bayard). Those Republicans who were excused for the vote included Reps. Rebecca Dow (Truth or Consequences) and Joshua Hernandez (Rio Rancho). In the Senate, Republican Senators Bill Burt (Alamogordo), Crystal Diamond (Deming), Ron Griggs (Alamogordo), Gay Kernan (Hobbs), Mark Moores (Albuquerque), Cliff Pirtle (Roswell), and Joshua Sanchez (Grants) joined the radical Democrats in supporting the socialist free college bill.

Stansbury votes against human rights, sides with bloodthirsty communist Cuban regime

On Thursday, far-left Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM-01) voted against a bipartisan resolution standing in solidarity with the Cuban people who are fighting for their freedom against their communist dictatorship.

Human Rights Watch found that the communist Cuban regime “systematically engaged in arbitrary detention, ill-treatment of detainees, and abuse-ridden criminal prosecutions in response to overwhelmingly peaceful anti-government protests in July 2021.”

The House passed the resolution in a 382-40 vote, “with all 40 votes against it coming from Democrats,” according to The Hill.

The resolution said it was focused on “expressing solidarity with Cuban citizens demonstrating peacefully for fundamental freedoms, condemning the Cuban regime’s acts of repression, and calling for the immediate release of arbitrarily detained Cuban citizens.”

But for Stansbury, a far-left extremist, who votes along the same vein as “Squad” members Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), the commonsense resolution of solidarity opposing a bloodthirsty communist failed state’s treatment of citizens, was not something she could support.

Stansbury has been known for racist statements toward minorities, specifically Dinè people. She told displaced Navajo energy workers to go “sell your art or your wool” instead of having good-paying energy jobs.

Stansbury already has one Republican 2022 challenger, Michelle Garcia Holmes, and more candidates may emerge following Stansbury’s extreme votes. During the special election which put Stansbury in Congress, her statements in support of anti-police groups like “Black Lives Matter” were front-and-center.

Tim Keller, who was found guilty of ethics violations, now accuses opponent of similar charges

Over the past few weeks, New Mexicans have heard screaming and shouting from Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller’s campaign regarding accusations from the campaign that his opponent, Sheriff Manny Gonzales, had violated ethics rules regarding signatures on $5 contribution forms to qualify for public financing.

Now, despite Gonzales qualifying with more than enough verified signatures for public financing, the City’s Board of Ethics announced it would withhold public financing from the Sheriff. He will be appealing the decision, saying, “These are just tactics that are being used in a smear campaign by the Keller campaign.”

Gonzales may not be far off in his assertion, however, because in 2017, in his first run for mayor, Keller himself was found guilty of an ethics violation relating to campaign finance rules.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the Board of Ethics “found that mayoral candidate and state Auditor Tim Keller violated the City Charter’s Elections Code and the Open and Ethical Elections Code.” These charges were based on the Keller campaign’s fraudulent activity. However, now, Keller accuses Gonzales of “widespread fraud.”

Then-Bernalillo County Commissioner Wayne Johnson’s attorney, Pat Rogers, said of the 2017 complaint findings by the Commission, “We appreciate the work of the Board of Ethics and the confirmation of what we all know – Mr. Keller broke a number of ethical rules concerning contributions and reporting.” Rogers added, “… By the time all of the ethics complaints against Mr. Keller are addressed by the Ethics Board, it will (be) difficult to find an ethical rule Mr. Keller and his political operatives actually honored.”

The Journal reported:

The ethics board heard arguments and took testimony on the Keller in-kind contributions complaint last Thursday. Keller reported close to $38,000 in in-kind donations. Most of that came in the form of checks written by Keller supporters to Rio Strategies, the firm running his campaign, and was used to pay for Rio Strategies’ services.

The complaint, filed in September, alleged that the Keller campaign “falsely reported these cash contributions as ‘in-kind contributions’ on several reports” submitted to the City Clerk’s Office.

It appears that the Keller campaign, which in 2017 was run by socialist ex-Bernie Sanders for President supporters, is using socialist Saul Alinsky’s rule from “Rules for Radicals.”

Alinsky asserted, “Accuse your opponent of what you are doing to create confusion and to inculcate voters against evidence of your own guilt.” Now, it appears Keller is trying to skirt fraud committed by his campaign under the rug while accusing his opponent of exactly what he is guilty of himself.

Allies of Gonzales are now acting on dishonest practices said to have been committed by the Keller campaign, with the Save Our City PAC telling KOB 4 that they have already found over 40 and counting concerning contributions from Mayor Keller’s campaign.
