New Mexico ranks at the top of another ‘worst’ list

A new WalletHub study has ranked New Mexico as the worst state for drug use, beating out every other state with the highest score of 71.26.

According to the study, “In order to determine which states have the biggest drug problems, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia in three overall categories: 1) Drug Use & Addiction, 2) Law Enforcement and 3) Drug Health Issues & Rehab.”

“Those categories include a total of 20 relevant metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the biggest drug problem.”

West Virginia came in second with a score of 66.67, and the District of Columbia, although not a state, ranked third in the nation with 62.60.

The state with the least amount of illicit drug use is Hawaii, scoring 22.8.

Regarding teen drug use, New Mexico ranked second only after Vermont. For teenagers being offered, sold, or given illegal drugs on school property, New Mexico ranked third-highest, only after Nevada and California, which ranked at the top.

The study notes, “Data used to create this ranking were collected from U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative, U.S. Department of Education – Office of Postsecondary Education, Guttmacher Institute, OHS Health & Safety Services, Recovery.org and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.”

  1. That is because the evil greedy governor of New Mexico has put a pot shop on every street. Look at all the $$$ she is getting.

    1. The one that knocked me off my chair was when they were discussing opening the shops and whoever was promoting them was asked where the profits would go and one of the things mentioned was “we will open more drug abuse facilities.” If that is not a Mad Hatter comment I don’t know what is! Use drug profits to open drug rehabs! And people agreed this was a great idea. Where are their heads????!!!!

    2. And before her, who was the fall guy? NM is infamous for being at the top of the bad lists. It’s our state, we citizens have to do better and expect better. The family unit is a good place to start. It’s sad, and I’m hopeful we can straighten this thing out. There is no relying on the government to do it for us in this category. Our kids deserve better. everyone

  2. Governor Lujan Grisham, campaigning in 2020, said she would legalize marijuana legal IF it would be kept out of the hands of children. The Governor had to call a special session to get the bill passed. No mention was made to protect our youth in the bill. All that was stated was that you couldn’t purchase if you were under 18. Last session, legislation was introduced to involve law enforcement when kids were found stoned or in possession. A long list of perilous consequences, including schizophrenia, was read. The bill died in the first committee.

  4. Communist policies have turned NM into a carbon copy of Commiefornia (California) .Albuquerque a once upon a time great city has been reduced to Portland southwest. A succession of Marxist mayors have utterly destroyed it, while their comrades do the same at the state level.

  5. Nancy Tannenbaum

Near where I live there is a huge mural painted on the street-side wall of a pot shop which displays a gigantic marijuana leaf and the words, “Weed loves everyone.” Yes, let us tip our hats to the communist/serial groper/infanticide-loving/do nothing about crime IDIOT “governor” who has utterly wrecked this miserable state, and let us not fail to recognize the MORONS who love and support her. Incredible stupidity.

  6. I was recently told that for every $1 a state makes from legalized marijuana, it spends $10 for social programs caused by marijuana use.
