After the Town of Edgewood passed its pro-life sanctuary city ordinance early Wednesday morning, pro-abortion Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Attorney General Raúl Torrez responded with furious statements, obviously triggered by the move to protect human life in the womb.
Even more angering to them is the ordinance is based on a federal law, the Comstock Act, which supersedes state statutes far-left Democrats have passed, such as 2023’s H.B. 7, attempting to circumvent local control of abortion.
Lujan Grisham’s office told the Albuquerque Journal, “Abortion remains legal and accessible to every New Mexican. The governor recently signed into law HB 7, which prohibits local governments from enacting abortion bans.”
“It is clear the Town of Edgewood’s ordinance will be unenforceable in light of the passage of HB 7. We will take whatever action is needed to ensure that the laws of New Mexico are upheld in every community, including those seeking to strip women of their reproductive rights,” she concluded.
Torrez said, “The ordinance passed [Wednesday] in Edgewood is yet another example of Texas based lawyers misleading local communities and enlisting them in their effort to bring about a national abortion ban. The New Mexico Constitution and state statutes prohibit local communities from regulating access to healthcare or infringing on a woman’s fundamental right to make the most personal decision regarding her body and her future. Attorney General Torrez is closely monitoring these unlawful actions and looks forward to resolving these important issues in the action currently pending in the New Mexico Supreme Court.”
Interestingly, Torrez references Texas, despite the locality passing the pro-life ordinance on its own accord, whereas he and Lujan Grisham have worked hard to woo Texas women to New Mexico to get their abortions on the state line. Recently, the governor rammed through $10 million to construct a new abortion facility in Las Cruces to service Texas women.
Edgewood is just the latest locality to pass the pro-life ordinance. Places such as Eunice, Clovis, and Hobbs have passed similar pro-life ordinances protecting life in the womb and ensuring women are not maimed or killed by the deadly abortion drugs used in chemical abortions.
10 million New Mexican Taxpayer Dollars being used to fund private businesses to kill possible future New Mexican taxpayers still don’t feel really legal to me. I know it’s not moral or ethical, but that don’t matter to these people. Still not legal….

This stinks of the same stench that enveloped the Floyd school system during the mandates. The local schools felt that the mandates were not applicable to them — which is fair. Who knows better what is best for a community but the people that live and work in the community? But no. MLG took it upon herself to fire the school board and install her own Nazis in place. As if out-of-touch Santa Fe elitists have a clue what goes on in a school system of less than 150 kids. Same applies here. If Edgewood does not want abortion in their town, they have every right to outlaw it. If you live in Edgewood and want an abortion, then go get one in Albuquerque or where ever else it’s available. Just like what was done during Prohibition. If you lived in a dry county and you wanted booze, you went over county or state lines. Some counties in America still are dry, because that is how their community wants it. Easy peasy and everyone is happy.

What did the AG, Sheriff and Cops do to support the law? Four questions to AG Torrez, MLG, & any or all of the members of the NM Legislature: *1.What crime(s) did unborn human beings commit to be sentenced to death? *2. Have “inconvenience”,”eye color”,or “gender” become the measure for the value of life? *3. Is human life so worthless that it can be legally ended for convenience? A meadow jumping mouse, is a protected species in NM. Over 63 MILLION unborn human babies have been killed. *4 Why aren’t unborn human beings a protected species? I would submit to you that NM Gov and legislature members, who support abortion for convenience, value the life of , a mouse above the life of an unborn human being. When the value of unborn babies lives is eliminated -the value of all childrens lives is diminished. Need proof-look at the numbers of child & teenage murders, sexual abuse and sex trafficking of children.

I DO think abortion should be legal! It SHOULD be legal to abort the mothers and doctors performing them while saving the helpless babies. They didn’t ASK to be conceived. They had no choice in the matter.
