Piñon Post calls on Mayor Webber to denounce ‘The Red Nation’ for racist rhetoric and links to terrorism

SANTA FE, N.M.—On June 18th, Mayor Alan Webber proudly shared the stage on the Santa Fe plaza with members of the group, “The Red Nation,” an organization that has a past of anti-Hispanic bigotry. Now, the group has aligned itself with the Hezbollah-linked group “Al-Awda,” whose founder equates Zionists with Nazis.

Anti-Hispanic bigotry

The Red Nation’s founder claimed in a 2016 blog post that “the ‘Hispanic’ or ‘Spanish American’ racial identity was a fiction created to make New Mexico appear ‘white enough’ to join the U.S. since both identities privileged a European or Spanish heritage even if the population was mixed or descended from detribalized peoples. New Mexico’s statehood was delayed until 1912 because white Anglos felt the territory did not possess a white majority, so a new ‘race’ of whites had to be created.”

“The Red Nation is an anti-Hispanic hate group, period. Its bigoted attempts to erase the rich culture of Hispanic and Spanish American people — both by attempting to tear down outward representations of our heritage and by claiming our racial identity is fictitious — is textbook racism,” said John Block, editor of the Piñon Post.

Ties to anti-Semitism and the terrorist group Hezbollah

The group has also recently partnered with the Hezbollah-linked group “Al-Awda,” to put on a July 1st parade and rally in Albuquerque called the “Global Day of Rage” against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank. According to a detailed report by the Anti-Defamation League, Abbas Hamideh, the group’s founder has expressed strong support for Rasmea Odeh, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, who was convicted of planting the explosives used in two 1969 Jerusalem bombings.

In addition, Hamideh repeatedly praised the work of the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah, writing, “Happy #LiberationDay #Lebanon! Long live the courageous #Hezbollah!”

He compared Zionists with Nazis, writing, “Yes, the Nazis are still around with a different name: Zionists,” and wrote, “Israel will eventually die just like Nazism.”

Hamideh also said FOX News and CNN are “Zionist Jew network[s]” that are controlled by “Jew Zionist masters.”

Mayor Alan Webber Must Denounce The Red Nation

“The anti-Hispanic, anti-Semitic organization calling itself ‘The Red Nation’ has shown just how far it is willing to go to promote a pure evil ideology of hatred, division, and racism. The Piñon Post calls on Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber to immediately denounce The Red Nation for its ties to terrorism. As a civil and just society, we must call a spade a spade, and violent organizations like The Red Nation must be called out and ostracized — not embraced,” said Block.

Block continued, “We also call on other people in positions of power, including Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, New Mexico’s entire federal congressional delegation, and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, to denounce The Red Nation for its racist and violent terrorist activity. As Mayor of Albuquerque, Tim Keller must immediately condemn The Red Nation for their racism, and discourage them from holding their anti-Semitic event in his city.”

According to federal designations, “Domestic terrorism is the unlawful use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States or Puerto Rico without foreign direction committed against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

By the group’s demonstrations and its promotion of violent means (such as destroying property) to meet its political and social objectives, The Red Nation is carrying out acts of domestic terrorism.

The Piñon Post will be sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo petitioning him to designate the group a terrorist organization.
