Group sues City of ABQ over $250K Planned Parenthood donation

On Friday, it was revealed that the Rio Grande Foundation, in partnership with the Liberty Justice Center, is suing the City of Albuquerque over its $250,000 donation to the abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

The Albuquerque City Council in August 2022 voted 5-4 to fund the abortion giant, claiming it was giving Planned Parenthood the money for supposedly necessary abortion procedures, including abortions.

“New Mexico’s constitution prevents politicians from using taxpayer funds like their own personal piggy banks,” says Daniel Suhr, managing attorney at the Liberty Justice Center. “Albuquerque’s grant to Planned Parenthood is pure politics, and the state constitution prevents that kind of abuse of taxpayer dollars.”

“Taxpayers should not be compelled to subsidize Planned Parenthood or any other private group,” said Gessing, who is president of the free-market Rio Grande Foundation. “The anti-donation clause of New Mexico’s constitution is a bulwark for taxpayers against politically motivated earmarks just like this one.”

73% of Americans, including pro-choice individuals, women, and millennials, oppose mandated taxpayer funding of abortions, according to a recent Marist/Knights of Columbus poll.

In a previous op-ed from New Mexico Sun, City Councilor Renee Grout wrote, “This is not a simple disagreement on a political issue. For many people, abortion is sanctioned murder. It is wasteful and wrong to give $250,000 of taxpayer money to a business that makes $1.3 billion every year advocating for and performing this procedure.”

Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn, the sponsor of the $250,000 blank check to Planned Parenthood, was annoyed that the Council was revisiting the vote, saying, “Now is not the time to roll back something that we literally passed two months ago.”

    1. That’s exactly where it will go! I understand that now pregnant women can abort their children if congenital disabilities are discovered. This state already allows euthanasia. NO one is safe!

    2. Euthanasia already is legal, just not for those with dementia or Alzheimers, until they want to harvest us old ones for food or parts or the funding runs out to keep us. LOGAN’s RUN.
The fetus is much more valuable with using these lives for stem cells in cosmetics, research growing parts on mice etc. Shame on us all. God bless.

  1. Wake up. They are already euthanizing. I should not have to pay for murdering innocent babies. When are New Mexicans going to stand up and fight? Yes, God is ultimately in control, but we CANNOT KEEP SILENT. The evil demoncrats think they have the right to control everything.

    1. Write it again sister! Watch out for conservative and woke groups who are NOT interested in solving the problems, just interested in collecting $$ donations. Both sides have decided to follow the money instead of the faith.

  2. Why is it that the minority is allowed to make such bad decisions for the majority and get away with it at taxpayers expense? Unless we stand up to such atrocious and evil people who fund such barbaric laws it will continue. The Albuquerque Journal would never publish such an article. I don’t want to pay for anyones abortion. I feel it’s a personal decision between to consenting adults who didn’t ask my opinion on birth control and the now we have to pay for killing their baby!!! We live in a lunatic world with lunatics running it. God help us, God have mercy on us.

  3. Go John, thank you for HB 110. Don’t know what it is check ut the NMlegis site that lists the bills in consideration. We need to roar at the legislature.

  4. AMAZING… we have various independent business owners (i.e. restaurant owners, etc. – and are the ones who keep an economy afloat) who had to close their independent business doors forever due to the COVID control scam, with the state offering no real solutions to help save these independent businesses, yet the state is making GRANT (grant=free) funds available for a money making ‘adventure to murder infants’ and pawn off such businesses as medical care. The even more egregious downfall of such clinics are the funds that can be made by this type of business for selling stem cells and other body parts of these aborted babies. There ARE legitimate MEDICAL reasons for aborting a baby – and these are done at legitimate hospital facilities, not the ‘I want to ditch a baby because it’s not convenient now’ facility. What I would not mind seeing is grant for a alternative spay / neuter program for humans who don’t want to be responsible for another human life – to me this is a win-win solution. As ole Ben Franklin said: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

  5. Back in May22, I sent Tammy Fiebelkorn an email,
“ Your sponsorship of this funding should include assurances that absolutely none of this money will be used for abortions. Citizens need more transparency on this funding.
For you to call your pro-life constituents “anti-women extremists” is disgraceful. I am a husband and father of a daughter; how disrespectful of you. You should be ashamed and apologize, but you won’t.”

    Her response,
“ I will definitely not apologize and there will be no limitations on the use of my council-directed funds for Planned Parenthood beyond those that are included in law. That means the funds can’t be used for capital improvements, but can be used for any operating expenses needed.”
