Tim Keller gets brutally ratioed after claiming ABQ crime is ‘trending down’

ALBUQUERQUE — A new X post from far-left Democrat Mayor Tim Keller is backfiring spectacularly after he publicly claimed that crime is “trending down” in Albuquerque — a city that continues to rank among the most dangerous in the country and even in the world.

In a video posted to X, Keller proclaimed:

“Crime is trending down in Albuquerque because we are taking a smarter approach. With better tech, added support staff, and ACS taking thousands of calls, officers can focus on violent crime. This is how we move our city forward, safer and stronger together.”

But the public response was immediate — and overwhelmingly negative. As of 10:00 p.m., Keller’s post had just 25 likes and 99 comments, a ratio signaling widespread rejection of his narrative.

The reality: Albuquerque is not seeing major crime improvement

Contrary to Keller’s claims, Albuquerque remains one of the most crime-stricken cities in America. According to global crime analysis published this year, Albuquerque ranks as the 20th most dangerous city in the world with a crime index of 71.4. The ranking, based on data from global risk assessment sources, places Albuquerque alongside cities plagued by far higher levels of violence than the national average.

KOAT also reported this year that Albuquerque was one of the most dangerous cities in the nation on Halloween, reflecting statistically high rates of violent crime, repeat offenders, and soaring property theft.

For residents, Keller’s rosy portrayal of safety stands in stark contrast to their lived reality.

Residents unleashed a wave of frustration, anger, and disbelief:

  • Kimberly DeaBueno: “I know first hand the approach you’re taking, ignoring 911 cries for help! I was told 2x no officer available after I was being threatened with thugs with guns at my business. Since you don’t respond to actual crime, your false stats go down 🙄 nobody is safe in Albuquerque!”
  • TDog73: “If you stop arresting people for committing crime, crime ‘Statistics’ will go down but everyone that lives here knows crime has never been worse. You literally admitted it during the debate. You have failed everyone that lives here and you need to go. You are the problem.”
  • Mrs. Gen X: “You are a joke and everyone is sick of it. You are the problem! Make Albuquerque safe again. Vote @darrenPwhite”
  • Jon Herr: “Your policies caused crime rates to explode… only when you were up for reelection did you start talking about cleaning it up.”
  • Shayadjinn: “‘Smarter’ = changing what’s called a ‘violent’ crime — messing with stats I would bet. Because the city looks and acts exactly the same. Keller is leaving Albuquerque worse than he found it — WAY, WAY worse. And worse? He’s lying.”
  • Lobo1984: “No, it’s not trending down. Reports are down because people have become apathetic. I’ve had more than 10 incidents at my business property over the past 2 years. I haven’t called once. It’s become the norm and a cost of doing business in Albuquerque under your term.”
  • Mike Romo: “I literally just heard rapid gunfire from my house.”
  • Motor jupiter the 2nd: “And right after I posted this, what popped up on my feed? Last night’s Murder 107…”

Even the Republican Party of New Mexico Executive Director Leticia Muñoz weighed in, writing:

“This post is ratio’d for obvious reasons.”

A major warning sign ahead of the mayoral runoff

Keller is currently facing former Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White in a high-stakes December 9 runoff. Public safety is the defining issue — and Keller’s X ratio is a glaring signal that voters simply don’t believe him.

Analysts say Keller’s attempt to declare victory on crime is risky, particularly when residents feel unsafe, hear gunfire nightly, or have given up calling 911 because police response is nonexistent.

Bottom line

Mayor Keller’s optimistic narrative is clashing sharply with Albuquerque’s real crime statistics, national rankings, and the lived experiences of residents. His attempt to claim that crime is “trending down” has not only failed to persuade — it’s triggered an online revolt.

With crime dominating the runoff, Keller’s ratio might be more than an embarrassing internet moment — it may be a preview of how voters feel heading into Election Day.

  1. crime isnt trending down. it isnt being reported. those criminals that do get arrested plead their charges down to a lower level. less cops on the street mean less arrests. a judge just released a person charged in a murder with no bail. Tombstone Tim is full of crap. burque just hit 107 murders this year. voters dont care. Kellers Killers own the streets. enjoy three term tim for another 4 years pathetic burque voters. you deserve what you vote for

  2. Too bad no one remembers about the crime when they vote, most just vote for free bees and want to keep the democrats in charge. Free bees do not give you freedom.

  3. Anyone who has paid the slightest bit of attention during Keller’s two terms knows the City is worse off. Homelessness is out of control, criminals do whatever they please. There are no more actual police on the streets despite all his campaign promises to increase the force. He basically is a BS mayor. He reminds me of Gavin Newscum, all looks and crappy results.

Yes, I know Darren White has a lot of baggage but he is getting my vote because another four years of Keller is unacceptable.

So, get out and vote! If you don’t vote, then you don’t get to whine if Keller gets reelected.

  4. being a democrat these days is like being a DUNCE. this isnt the party of the 1960’s. this is a socialist party. a party that votes to starve its people and deny them paychecks by closing the govt and voting 14 times to keep it closed. our three NM representatives voted to keep the govt closed on that last vote where the govt finally did open. why are nm democrats so proud to show their stupidity and continue voting for those that hurt them and do NOTHING to move this city or state forward. this place, along with most blue cities, is HOPELESS. if you cant take it any more, your last option is to vote with your feet and leave this death spiral city and state.

  5. I don’t live in ABQ and refuse to travel to that sick city but I do listen to ABQ radio stations and the news and Keller needs to dictate to the newsrooms to stop reporting on the crimes especially the daily homicides because every day the news reports on another shooting. If I can’t get what I need in Los Lunas or Socorro I can live without it.

  6. Please don’t vote for Keller. In today’s Opinion section of the ABQ Journal former Mayor Chavez is endorsing Keller, reading Chavez rah rah for Keller only solidifies my vote for White.
A earlier comment mentions Darren’s past misjudgments, Darren has acknowledged them, but Keller lies and lies and misleads the citizens as though we are ignorant and can’t see through his b-ll S-it.
Chavez is working for MLG in Santa Fe…that should say something about his character…one of MLG minions.

  7. RMG they drug Marty Chavez out of the retirement home to have him be point man for the upcoming state fair ground fiasco. somehow this crap city and state have no money for a properly sized police dept and justice system, yet they can spend billions on the fair grounds to gentrify it and chase out those that live there. I thought democrats didnt like gentrification ? its just another dumb idea that will cost us all billions. I cant listen to Marty Chavez or any party line democrat who pretends any of this is working. they are more loyal to party than country , city , or their neighbors.

  8. Sunday morning local television news did a long segment on the lower crime rates in Albuquerque, but ended by saying that Albuquerque rates 14th in the nation for violent crime.
They are obviously in bed with Keller and his police chief, misleading the voters. Isn’t this called FAKE NEWS?
Someone should be brave enough to sue them all – a precedent being established by our (finally had enough of the lies that prove that Democrats care NOTHING about the safety of their constituents) President!

  9. Hizzoner the Mayor stated that to combat crime he has instituted speed cameras on our roads. Hmm . . .read yesterday there is no existing method to report camera info to the City.
Wonder how that’ll work??? Maybe the cameras will teleport your speeding info straight into your neuro system…..??

  10. I live in unincorporated Bernalillo County so unfortunately can not vote in the very important mayoral election. I feel elections in New Mexico are easily manipulated which results in hard to believe outcomes. No ID required allows those “paid” unauthorized persons to cast votes which is a logical reason to keep the drugged street people around. I encourage all residents allowed to vote in this election to heed the call for change and vote out the Kellers of this state. These are the puppets that continue the chaos we have lived with for too long.

  11. Once again I find that the reader’s of the Pinon Post are very aware of the corruption, cronyism and lies that just flow out of the mouths of political demoncraps when running for office. And if that’s not enough let’s give things away (free child care, free snap benefits) robbing the state’’s emergency funds. Then don’t forget the millions they have spent on giving homeless housing and now proposing lower housing costs. The money spent could have given every single person a new house. I too am tired of the BS these professional liars spew. What is really sad is those living outside the city limits are denied a vote, yet they are affected by the liberals rhetoric and taxation. Good luck on finding the boundaries separating the two. It reads like a Chinese puzzle and then there are spot zoning of city in the middle of the county. That needs to be fixed as well.

As far as the NMSF, follow the money and see who has the most to gain! My guess Paul Blanchard will be blessed with a very lucrative relocation package. Just like his lease to the NMSF has been reduced from $2-3 million per year to $250,000. Sweet

An upgrade to some of the facilities would be better and maybe a practical use of empty spaces. A facility that generates millions of tax dollars, provides a variety of entertainment and has provided various opportunities to the public in a convenient location surrounded by a nice security wall has no reason to be moved. This should be put on the ballot for tax payers to decide not the opinionated elite politicians.

  12. I agree with ‘Yeah Right’…I just spoke to an Albuquerque resident who has an Albuquerque address, but is denied a vote in the Albq. mayoral election because they are out of the city ‘boundary’. What a racket!!

I heard Keller say he has procedures in place to reduce crime, but these things take time. He’s had 8 years and crime is worse now than ever! It took Pres. Trump only about a MONTH to take crime down to almost zero in Washington, D.C.

And what is this nonsense about the incumbent mayor getting taxpayer dollars for his re-election campaign, while all other candidates must raise their own funds?! Sounds like a third world dictatorship, not the United States of America.

Darren White has a decent chance of winning this run off election if all eligible Republican voters get out to vote and bring a friend. A recount or audit with all sides present should be demanded if he’s told he lost, even if it’s by a large margin. The Dems are known to cheat with Mail in ballots, duplicate voters, bogus addresses, etc.

  13. This is exactly the reason my wife wanted to leave Albuquerque. The city is *was* a great city, and my wife loved the weather but like all of us, she hated the politics. I know I am hoping the people of Albuquerque get smart and wake up. Vote in Darren White. Hell, even my baby grand daughter would be better in the mayors office than Slick timmy Keller. Like one other commentor said. Him and Governor Newscum of California are exactly the same. They only address the problems when it becomes a problem for them. Albuquerque deserves better, and should vote in better, as New Mexico deserves better than MLG. Thank God NM is a term limited state. But please get smart NM and don’t vote in the next democrat in line. The democrats are destroying what is left of New Mexico. When I was growing up here, I walked all over the city day or night with no concerns for my well being. Today you try that and you will get killed. Save Albuquerque. Stop wanting the most dangerous city in America, start going for being the safest. We are far from that. My wife never felt safe there, and that is a sad comment to say since I always had.
