The Trump administration has taken a bold step to ensure accountability and fiscal responsibility in the handling of pandemic-era education relief funds—ending a previously granted extension for New Mexico to spend the remaining $12.3 million in federal ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds. In a March 28 letter, Linda McMahon of the U.S. Department of Education notified state education leaders that the liquidation period for these funds was being cut off effective immediately.

The decision came as a wake-up call to New Mexico’s education bureaucracy, which had failed to efficiently utilize its allotted federal aid. Despite being granted nearly $980 million in total relief through ESSER during the pandemic, New Mexico still had millions left unspent, with state officials citing supply chain issues and inadequate staffing. But McMahon’s letter made it clear: “By failing to meet the clear deadline in the regulation, you ran the risk that the [U.S. Department of Education] would deny your extension request.”

In other words, New Mexico had ample time to deploy these resources—yet, as with many government initiatives in the state, the follow-through was lacking.

Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales, a Democrat and former educator, reacted angrily, calling the decision a “reckless and abrupt termination” that would impact students across the state. He claimed it would disrupt after-school programs, HVAC upgrades, and even outdoor classroom projects—yet failed to address why these projects weren’t completed in the years prior.

Attorney General Raúl Torrez joined the chorus of complaints, calling the decision “unacceptable and reckless,” and announced that New Mexico was joining over a dozen other Democrat-run states in suing the Trump administration. The lawsuit alleges that the reversal would strip schools of “essential resources like food, classroom supplies, [and] special education for teachers.”

But what’s truly “unacceptable,” critics argue, is that Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s New Mexico’s Public Education Department—despite being granted an extension through March 2026—still hadn’t managed to allocate the full amount efficiently. This is in a state that ranks dead last in education outcomes nationally, falling behind every other state and even the District of Columbia. According to longstanding rankings, New Mexico continues to struggle with low test scores, high dropout rates, and chronic absenteeism.

While the state now scrambles for another extension, the Department of Education has signaled that the era of open-ended pandemic spending is over. McMahon made it clear in her letter that “extending deadlines for COVID-related grants, which are in fact taxpayer funds, years after the COVID pandemic ended is not consistent with the Department’s priorities.”

The state had intended to funnel the remaining millions toward tutoring, after-school activities, and infrastructure upgrades in school districts, including Bloomfield, Deming, and Moriarty-Edgewood. However, the funds sat largely untouched despite the pressing academic needs brought on by the pandemic—another example, critics say, of bureaucratic mismanagement in a chronically underperforming education system.

Public Education Department spokesperson Janelle Taylor García confirmed the agency plans to apply for yet another extension. But with the Department of Education signaling that prior approvals are not guaranteed and “may be reconsidered,” the clock may have finally run out.

Despite the blow, Morales insists, “I’m not going to give up. I will continue to fight for our students and our educators who need these after-school, summer learning and tutoring programs.” Still, observers note that a true fight for students might start with taking responsibility for why the state fell behind in deploying resources in the first place—especially when the Trump administration is demanding that taxpayer dollars be used wisely and efficiently.

As Dems are set to descent upon American streets to attack Trump and “fight back,” including in New Mexico through agitating “Hands Off” protests organized by a rogue group called “Indivisible,” more threats pour in targeting the New Mexico Republican Party, which was firebombed Sunday morning following Democrat Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez demanding her supporters “agitate.”

Now, new phone calls into the GOP office show the levels of unhinged lunacy that embody the left. One such phone call is as follows:

“Yeah, I saw a report this morning on the news about your state headquarters being firebombed and ICE equals the KKK. And furthermore, I listened to some of your representatives or, let’s see, Amy Barela, Republican Party of New Mexico chairwoman, complaining on TV about how, ‘Oh, this has got to stop. Oh my, we can’t have this.’ Well, you motherf***ers should have thought about that before you attacked the Capitol on January 6th. You should have thought about that before you elected a tyrant for a president who is taking out his personal revenge on anyone that (sic) writes an article against him. Who the f*** do you sorry sons of b****es think you are? Do you think that, ‘Oh, what’s good for the goose ain’t good for the gander?’ Well, I got news for you, motherf***ers. You’re just beginning to see the tip of the iceberg. The American people have woke up to your lies, your bulls***, your fascism, your racism, your bigotry, your misogyny, and electing a g**damn orange sociopath who has violated the Constitution and his office and federal court orders. The same woman called back a few minutes after the first instance, with even more vulgar language, cursing 23 times in the one phone message: 

“I just listen (sic) to some b**** of yours on the TV talking about, ‘Oh, we’ve been getting the most vile calls. They use vulgar language.’ Well, welcome to the party, sons of b****es. Welcome to the f***ing party. This is what Democrats have put up for years and years of your bulls***. ‘Oh, January 6th, it was just a tourist visit.’ That motherf***ing sociopath pardoned hundreds and hundreds of convicted felons for putting out the eyes of police officers and beating police officers, and slaying them with bear spray. Oh, but if the Republicans do it, that must be okay. F*** you, you g**damn hypocrites. F*** your g**damn a**es to f***ing hell. You want to know why, b****es? Because we’re tired of taking it laying down. We’re f***ing tired of your bulls*** and hypocrisy. You’re g**damn little Nazi-a** brown shirts that threaten judges because they make rulings that Trump don’t like. F*** you! Another phone call from a man who has been traced through his phone number to Albuquerque said that he wishes that Republicans were in the building when it was lit ablaze, another sentiment of violent rage from the radical left. The message is as follows: 

“Yeah. Um, saw on the news, I guess you guys suffered a fire, man. That’s too bad. They saw your statement, decrying this attack on democracy. You f***ing hypocrites. You’re destroying this government. You’re destroying democracy. You’re illegally f***ing deporting people. You’re grabbing people off the street with your secret police bulls***. I’m just sad that you guys weren’t in the f***ing building when it burned down. F*** you!”

Multiple other threatening voicemails and correspondences were sent to the GOP and elected officials. The Republican Party of New Mexico has forwarded these to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

After the GOP was firebombed and lit ablaze by radicalized domestic terrorists, the New Mexico Democrat Party released an email blaming the victims — the New Mexico Republican Party and Republican state Reps. John Block (Alamogordo) and Stefani Lord (Sandia Park) — for the attacks, claiming their rhetoric was what was responsible for the fiery blazes at the GOP headquarters. Reps. Block and Lord were recently surrounded and threatened at the Roundhouse during the recent 60-day legislative session by pro-Hamas radicals. The arson at the Republican office is being investigated as a hate crime.

For weeks, violent leftists have been torching Tesla dealerships, keying the vehicles, and even drawing swastikas and other foul messages on them amid Elon Musk’s successful work on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to stop government waste, fraud, and abuse. The Santa Fe New Mexican reported on multiple instances of Teslas being vandalized in a number of ways by residents in the capital city. The photos below are of one of the suspects, and law enforcement is seeking help in identifying this individual, who is still on the lam. 

Now, on Saturday, these same violent hooligans are set to hit the streets again for more agitation and likely violence. The group writes on its website, “We are setting out to build a massive, visible, national rejection of this crisis. On April 5, we will host events across the country, in major cities and small towns in every state. Our goal is to show that the people—the majority—are taking action to stop the corruption and power grab.” 

There are protests planned for Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Silver City, Alamogordo, Truth or Consequences, Socorro, Portales, Los Lunas, Ramah, Gallup, and Taos. It is advised that New Mexicans stay vigilant and aware of these situations and avoid these areas for citizens’ own safety. These radicals have shown they are quick to violence and emboldened by their elected Democrat officials, such as Rep. Leger Fernandez.

The concept would effectively convert part of the border in New Mexico into a militarized zone, where soldiers could detain migrants who cross into the area, similar to how trespassers are handled on military bases.

The Washington Post reports that the plan has been under discussion for several weeks and would likely introduce additional legal challenges for individuals attempting to enter the U.S. unlawfully.

Under the proposal, the military zone would extend 60 feet deep along the border, placing it directly under military jurisdiction.

Far-left Democrat New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham responded Thursday, sharply criticizing the idea. “The president’s decision to create a deportation buffer zone along New Mexico’s border is a waste of resources and military personnel,” she stated.

Thus far, neither the Pentagon, the Department of Homeland Security, nor the White House has issued formal comments on the plan. However, an increased military presence has been observed at the border. The presence has resulted in the lowest number of illegal crossers, which is a stark contrast to the border under Joe Biden.

Video footage shows soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, Colorado, arriving at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, for what has been described as a “border mission” in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security.

Elsewhere, former acting ICE director and current border czar Tom Homan joined Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other officials in Florida for an immigration-focused event on Thursday.

Homan reiterated his belief that birthright citizenship fuels illegal immigration, urging the Supreme Court to revisit the issue. “I’m not a lawyer, but I can read, and I don’t think it’s clear that a child born in this country is automatically a U.S. citizen,” Homan remarked.

Weeklong operation across NM leads to the arrest of 48 violent criminal aliens

​In a concerted effort to enhance public safety, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with multiple federal agencies, conducted a weeklong enforcement operation culminating on March 8, 2025. This operation led to the apprehension of 48 individuals across three New Mexico cities: Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Roswell. 

The individuals targeted during this operation fell into two primary categories: those who had previously been ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge and remained unlawfully and those charged or convicted of serious criminal offenses while residing illegally in the country. Notably, 20 of the arrested individuals had been arrested or convicted of serious criminal offenses, such as homicide, criminal sexual penetration, sexual assault, battery on a household member, aggravated battery, drug trafficking, burglary, forced entry, driving under the influence, and shoplifting. 

The operation was a collaborative effort involving several federal agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the U.S. Marshals Service. This multi-agency approach underscores the federal government’s commitment to addressing illegal immigration and enhancing public safety by removing individuals who pose significant threats to communities.​

Mary De Anda-Ybarra, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations El Paso Field Office Director, emphasized the importance of such collaborations, stating, “ICE is grateful for our federal partners’ assistance in taking egregious offenders off the streets and out of our communities.” She further highlighted that these arrests exemplify the type of criminals living among us and highlight ICE’s commitment to the agency’s primary mission of protecting public safety.

The operation’s outcomes reflect ICE’s ongoing efforts to prioritize the apprehension and removal of individuals who pose the greatest risks to national security, public safety, and border security. By focusing resources on those with serious criminal backgrounds and final orders of removal, ICE aims to uphold its mission of enforcing immigration laws while safeguarding communities.​

Stansbury embarrasses NM on national stage in protest to Trump’s speech

In yet another display of performative outrage, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) made a spectacle of herself before former President Donald Trump even began his address to Congress. 

Instead of conducting herself with dignity, Stansbury chose to hold up a hastily scrawled sign reading, “This is not normal,” as Trump entered the chamber, ensuring she would be seen on camera.

The stunt didn’t last long. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), standing on the opposite side of the aisle, swiftly reached over and grabbed the paper from Stansbury’s hands, tossing it aside. It was a moment that underscored the growing frustration with Democrats’ endless theatrics.

Following the stunt, President Trump’s team trolled Stansbury’s little protest, altering the photo of her holding the sign to read “I am dumb.”

Rather than engaging in serious debate or offering solutions, Stansbury and her colleagues opted for more disruptions. Later in Trump’s speech, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) took the grandstanding to another level by loudly interrupting, prompting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to have him removed by the sergeant-at-arms.

Greene faces likely censure for the violent cane-weilding outburst, while expulsion could also be on the table for the radical leftist congressman.

Following parts of the speech, Stansbury and many of her far-left colleagues left the speech, another weak attempt at a protest to the president.

Many believe New Mexicans deserve representation that isn’t defined by embarrassing antics on national television. Instead of focusing on real issues affecting her constituents, Stansbury continues to indulge in petty protests that do nothing but draw attention to herself. 

Meanwhile, the rest of the country is left wondering why some Democrats seem more interested in stunts than in governing or helping President Trump fix the nation’s problems.

In El Paso sector, illegal border crossings plummet to historic lows

In Sunland Park, New Mexico, a quiet stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border saw just one migrant crossing illegally in a span of four hours. The lone individual, a 23-year-old Mexican national named Jovani, was met by six federal agents who informed him he would be sent back to Mexico the same day, according to a report by the New York Post. This shows the border policies under President Donald Trump are working — and at a rapid pace.

The El Paso sector, which spans western Texas and New Mexico, has experienced a significant drop in illegal crossings, with fewer than 100 migrants being caught each day. This marks a sharp decline from the peak of 1,800 per day in 2023 and even a substantial reduction from the 277 apprehended daily in December. Across the entire southern border, the average number of daily apprehensions at the beginning of the month stood at 359, positioning the U.S. for what could be the lowest monthly illegal border crossings in over 25 years, according to leaked Customs and Border Protection data.

Border Patrol agent Orlando Marrero-Rubio emphasized the efficiency of current border enforcement, stating, “It doesn’t matter if it took you 30 days, 40 days, 60 days to make that illegal crossing, we’ll expedite removal and have you in your country of origin within hours.” Jovani, who had attempted to evade authorities by running through the rugged desert terrain after scaling the border wall, revealed that it was his second attempt to cross into the U.S. He had paid $7,000 to cartel-affiliated smugglers, commonly referred to as “coyotes,” to facilitate his journey.

Jovani, visibly disheartened, showed the wounds on his hands from descending the border wall. “I’m very sad because I couldn’t cross because I couldn’t get to where I wanted to go,” he admitted. “I’m worried about deportations because this is my second time crossing.”

According to Marrero-Rubio, Jovani’s grievances are common among many migrants. However, unlike under the previous administration’s “catch and release” policy, where migrants would often turn themselves in knowing they would likely be released with an immigration court date, the current enforcement approach has led to increased attempts to cross undetected. 

Under the Biden administration, Border Patrol agents were frequently occupied processing migrants rather than patrolling the border. Now, with the return of Trump-era policies, agents are back in full force, directly securing the border.

Border Patrol sources have described their past duties as resembling “babysitting,” as they often had to process individuals with criminal backgrounds, gang affiliations, or even terrorist connections, many of whom were subsequently released into the U.S. Now, with heightened enforcement, additional troops deployed, and the “catch and release” policy rescinded, agents feel a renewed sense of purpose. “It’s a relief for our agents, they don’t feel overwhelmed,” said Marrero-Rubio.

Two years ago, agents in the El Paso sector were detaining around 2,500 migrants daily. In recent weeks, that number has fallen to fewer than 100 per day. With more personnel and time available, Border Patrol and the military have worked to regain control of areas once dominated by cartel smugglers, such as Mount Cristo Rey in Sunland Park. The mountain, crowned with a towering statue of Jesus on the Cross, was previously a haven for smugglers who would evade capture by hiding in the rocky terrain and even assaulting agents with stones. The situation was similar just miles away, where hundreds of migrants had overwhelmed the border and clashed with authorities.

Today, that once-chaotic area is largely silent, reinforced with additional razor wire and patrols, including state law enforcement sent by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Border Patrol agent Claudio Herrera noted the shift in operations, stating, “Right now, with everything working out towards our favor, now we have more agents on the line doing what they’re assigned to do and looking out for making those apprehensions instead of processing.”

On the eve of President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration, a few hundred far-left radicals, many of whom were wearing pink “p***y” hats, “Palestine” flags, and anti-Trump gear, gathered in Albuquerque for what they branded as “The People’s March,” a thinly veiled attempt to stir unrest and oppose Trump’s presidency following his historic win last November.

The event, organized by the New Mexico Women’s March, aligned with other similarly radical demonstrations across the country, serving as a rallying point for extremist rhetoric and divisive policies — the same policies the American people largely rejected across the country. New Mexico shifted five points toward Trump in 2024, showing the massive unpopularity of failing left-wing policies. 

Samia Assed, chair of the New Mexico Women’s March, stood before the crowd, begging them to resist Trump’s leadership while ominously referencing his anticipated policy agenda. “A big responsibility lies on our shoulders, and we have to be up for it,” Assed declared, seemingly advocating for defiance. She continued, “Come Tuesday, President Trump will have his 100 executive orders ready for us. Project 2025 will unfold. Are we going to fight back?” This call to arms reflects a broader far-left agenda that prioritizes resistance over unity to solve problems.

Joe Biden’s lame duck U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, a keynote speaker at the event, used the platform to further her political aspirations, reportedly positioning herself for a 2026 run for New Mexico governor. Haaland seized the opportunity to fan the flames of division, asserting that Trump surrounds himself with the “super-rich” who supposedly “look down on us and our communities” — talking points she incoherently read off a script.

“Our fight is not over,” Haaland proclaimed. “We will need to do the hard work of getting important things done and pushing back against an administration who couldn’t care less about regular people, about people like us.” Her remarks emphasized a partisan narrative while ignoring the widespread economic successes and opportunities fostered under Trump’s leadership.

The event featured a lineup of speakers notorious for their far-left ideologies, including U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury, state Sens. Antoinette Sedillo Lopez and Harold Pope, state Rep. Eleanor Chavez, Pueblo Action Alliance Executive Director Julia Bernal, and others. Their collective rhetoric painted an unrealistic, divisive picture of the Trump administration while promoting policies that many argue would harm working families and small businesses.

Adding fuel to the fire, pro-Hamas protesters made their presence known, brandishing radical slogans and signs in support of anti-Israel agendas. Others at the stage included members of the “Autonomous Brown Berets,” an extremist anti-police organization that has a New Mexico chapter. Their participation underscores the increasingly extreme nature of these so-called “progressive” movements.

Haaland’s final words encapsulated the march’s hostile tone: “We’re going to fight to remind people in power that they answer to us.” While Haaland and her allies claim to stand for the people, their rhetoric and actions suggest a commitment to political posturing rather than meaningful solutions.

Meanwhile, President Trump continues to champion policies to empower all Americans, create jobs, and foster prosperity. As Haaland and her extremist allies push for chaos and division to further their political ambitions, Trump remains focused on delivering results for the nation.
