The U.S. House of Representatives made a decisive move this week to protect the integrity of American elections by passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a bill that ensures only U.S. citizens are allowed to register and vote in federal elections. Despite bipartisan support for the common-sense measure, all three of New Mexico’s Democrat representatives—Teresa Leger Fernández, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez—voted against the bill, aligning themselves with far-left opposition rather than standing up for election integrity.
The SAVE Act mandates that individuals provide documented proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections—an overwhelming majority of Americans believe this requirement already exists. Shockingly, in many states, including New Mexico, voter registration processes do not require verified documentation of citizenship, leaving gaping holes in the system that could be exploited.
Yet, instead of praising this step toward greater public confidence in elections, prominent New Mexico Democrats erupted in outrage.
“Rest assured, I am a definite NO on the SAVE Act,” wrote U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, telegraphing his opposition before the Senate even considers the bill.
New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver issued a lengthy statement criticizing the legislation, calling it a threat to voter accessibility. “This legislation would impose stringent proof-of-citizenship requirements that threaten to disenfranchise many eligible voters in our state,” she said, suggesting erroneously that the bill would harm Native Americans, rural voters, and women who’ve changed their names after marriage.
Oliver also made the dubious claim that noncitizen voting is “exceedingly rare,” calling the bill “a solution in search of a problem.” However, recent polling and investigations have shown growing concerns among Americans over the possibility of voter fraud, particularly in states with lax voter registration requirements. The SAVE Act directly addresses those concerns by closing loopholes and reinforcing the principle that U.S. elections should be decided by U.S. citizens—nothing more, nothing less.
Most notably, freshman Rep. Gabe Vasquez, who faces a tough reelection battle in a battleground district, is now on record opposing a bill to prevent noncitizens from voting in federal elections. This position may prove politically toxic as Vasquez’s Republican challenger is certain to hammer him for putting partisan politics over secure elections.
While Democrats like Heinrich, Oliver, and Vasquez paint the bill as draconian, many Americans view the SAVE Act as a much-needed, commonsense safeguard. It’s no wonder the bill passed with bipartisan support. In an era where trust in elections has waned, requiring proof of citizenship to vote is a rational and fair way to help restore faith in the system.
New Mexico voters, especially those in competitive districts, may want to ask themselves: Why are their elected officials so afraid of proving citizenship at the ballot box?
With the SAVE Act now headed to the U.S. Senate, the spotlight turns to Sens. Heinrich and Luján. Will they continue to side with fringe voices, or will they stand up for the sanctity of American elections?
Their days of cheating will be coming to an end.
Yes…. This is HUGE
Winning!
Democrats freak out about anything involving truth and integrity.
So do some Republicans as well…
Do Better, Always!
Maybe New Mexico can finally turn red.
This state would melt if it turned red.
Dream on Paul! Democrats control everything in NM, including a majority of voters.
Freak’s out is a good term for her because she’s a freak.
Well I guess we know how they all got elected.
Maggie TO is such a dishonest, scheming dirtbag.
You’re being to kind.🙂
yup
I agree. She’s a POS. Thank goodness she’s at term limits.
ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES! RED IS COMING LIKE IT OR NOT!!.🇺🇸
When I was around 6 years old, my father was the democratic chair in Los Alamos. He drug me around to political rally and I was in back of the settings most of the time. I remember when the Democratic party did not want a particular democrat to win an election and a politician mentioned – in the back of the stage – not to worry about it. They ‘found’ a ballot box floating down the Rio Grande and it made sure the candidate would not be elected. And we say that the elections are honest. We have a history of that not being true.
And yet,, many do not want to believe in the corruption in New Mexico legislation. As my pastor once said, the oppressed seem to always vote in their oppressors.
We need to vote out all of MLG comrades and the far left fools who only think what they can gain from NM and do not care about the people.
Of course these marxists are against voter reform, how do you think they get “elected”? Nobody will be disenfranchised by proving citizenship, however the law if passed only refers to federal elections, we need similar laws at the town ,county and state levels. Town and county clerks are as corrupt as any at the state level and are “ promoted “ to higher office after proving their fealty to communism and corruption. Until meaningful reforms are enacted, NM will continue to “vote “ commie and boxcars full of votes will continue to be found when needed days after an election!
Absolutely agree with you. It needs to be done from the county level on up! Too much damage has been done by democrats at the county level. At one time, Los Alamos was run by republicans and small businesses were thriving! Today, nothing thrives!
This is a step in the right direction but it has to pass the senate so hold on before you start smelling. The next step which is more important than proof of citizenship is to get rid of the voting machines and go to paper ballots. At least we will have a hard record to go back and arrest the non citizens that voted. Maybe then they can be deported. If you say our elections are not rigged, look at the numbers. The POS Benny Lujan’s numbers increased at the same time and same persentage level across all counties for the win, that is mathematically impossible, yet he is sitting his happy ass in the seat.
Agree!
They want the REAL ID Act enforced, but not proof of Citizenship to vote. And the majority of people follow and support the REAL ID Act. I don’t get it. The People are being played but the people play their game because the people believe voting is the only way to remove corruption from official positions. The history of fraud in this state dates back to the 1920’s.
She’s going to start stress eating again..
Thank God for hearing and answering our prayers. Don’t ever give up! He DOES answer! He is the God of truth, justice, mercy, grace and forgiveness!
I wonder if she has heard about the voting machines having the ability to be hacked and to change votes. During the cabinet meeting yesterday Tulsi Gabbard reported this and investigations are ongoing.
It seems to me that if you are eligible to vote that you would get your shtuff together and get registered way before its time to vote. It’s not like voting just sneaks up with no notice. I would hope that all people would have gotten their new “Real ID” cards by now. If they haven’t than they likely don’t have enough brain power to vote or are just trying to hide out.
Common Sense ≠ Democrats
Toulouse!!!! In today’s world it’s not difficult to prove you’re a US citizen. It’s called integrity and honor at the ballot box, traits that you don’t have.
This law is good, but not good enough.
The voting machines and data are the critical component of the criminal election manipulation. At this stage who votes does not matter. Election results are made up and fake.
Party subversion is another. The Republican party is captured in NM.
They sell out using straw canididates to create the illusion of politics when in reality it is an authoritarian criminal racket.
The fools that do this dont realize they are destroying their lives as well. Ignorance.
That’s a rhetorical question right?
I certainly hope it passes. Now we need a similar requirement for local elections. It seems like anything that would obstruct fraud is looked down upon by NM Pols…
That just tells you that they have been cheating all of New Mexico in the voting by not requiring proof of citizenship!
Finding missing ballot boxes is part of the SOP. Used to joke with colleauges that they shouldn’t worry about the election cause last minute ballot boxes would be found. Certain counties in NM are notorious for that.
I want to see Voter ID become law in the nation. I would also like to see where only property owners can vote on raising property taxes.
Oooo— l LIKE that last suggestion!!
Of course Magpie Too Loose With the Votes Oliver is freaking out, with this bill she won’t be able to cheat for the party
rat mofo pedocrats will cheat
They say that it will prevent some ethnic people wouldn’t be able to vote. are they saying that Native Americans are too stupid or ignorant to be able to prove they are citizens”?
