The New Mexico gubernatorial race is heating up with the entry of Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman into the Democrat primary. Bregman, a seasoned attorney with over three decades of legal experience, officially announced his candidacy for governor in the upcoming 2026 election.
In a campaign video, Bregman attacks President Trump and Department of Government Efficiency advisor Elon Musk, claiming Musk is a puppet of the president and that they are “attacking” the state. He erroneously claimed the same long disproven talking points that Trump is “gutting Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare.”
Bregman’s legal career has been marked by attempts at “social justice” and pushing radical anti-gun legislation. Appointed as Bernalillo County District Attorney in January 2023 by lame-duck Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, he has claimed to put a focus on combating rising crime rates and building safer communities.
Bregman will face Deb Haaland, the former U.S. Secretary of the Interior under Joe Biden and a former congresswoman representing New Mexico’s 1st District. She announced her gubernatorial bid in February 2025, emphasizing her dedication to addressing issues such as climate change, tribal sovereignty, and social justice.
But Bregman appears to be tying Haaland to “weak” Democrats by saying regarding supposed “attacks” from Trump that they have been “weak, ineffective, and complicit with all this madness. And it’s the intolerance of the radical left that has divided our party.” He added, “Whether it’s them or the MAGA extremists, they’ve all hijacked our politics.”
While Haaland’s candidacy has garnered national attention due to her historic role in the federal government, Bregman’s extensive experience within New Mexico’s legal and political landscape positions him as a formidable contender. His background as a defense attorney and his leadership in the state’s busiest judicial district have provided him with a deep understanding of the challenges facing New Mexico communities. Bregman’s focus on public safety, judicial efficiency, and community collaboration resonates with voters concerned about crime and justice.
As the Democrat primary approaches, the race between Bregman and Haaland is expected to be closely watched. Both candidates bring strangely similar perspectives and policy positions. With two high-profile names on the Democrat side for governor, it is sure to be a present to the Republican Party, as the matchup between the two Democrats is sure to get nasty and expensive.
As of now, no Republican candidates have formally announced their intention to run for governor in the 2026 election.

Of course, like almost all Democrats and leftist figures across the globe, Bregman wants to call Trump and his supporters and other common sense minded people like him who actually support and represent the true values of this country and the world like border security and actually deporting and detaining violent illegals who commit atrocious acts on innocent people including innocent Americans, freedom of speech, the Second Amendment, the First Amendment, supporting Israel, etc “MAGA extremists”. Of course he wants to use that in order to undermine the United States and it’s values as well as the traditional values of this planet. However, however, he also said “it’s the intolerance of the radical left that has divided our party”. And if he is actually telling the truth about this, he’s 100% correct. I couldn’t agree with him more on that part. The radical left faction of the Democratic Party has destroyed the foundation of what the party used to be. Sure, the party has historically been a racist, pro-raiding taxes on everything(especially with Presidents Woodrow Wilson and FDR who really started that) and so on. But, there was a time when the Democratic Party…..made sense. When it had common sense, to an extent. President John F Kennedy was a big representation of this era of the party. He was a Democrat yes. But, he had common sense. In fact, many of his policies aligned those with the Republican Party. He was, what you would call, a Democrat with Republican-type views and morals. And he was murdered for it. Today, the party has lost much of this common sense minded policies and views and morals and has been largely replaced by advocates in the party for such things like allowing men to compete in women’s sports or allowing millions of illegals to come into the United States of America and commit atrocious and violent acts on innocent Americans in the thousands and what you will. And this isn’t just an isolated thing. This isn’t just a United States thing. Left-wing figures across the globe have done the same thing. Which is why the trust in them are at all time lows globally, including across the United States and North America as a whole. So, Sam Bregman saying that the radical left is intolerant, if he’s actually telling the truth, is absolutely correct. But, there’s the thing about him saying that MAGA supporters are “extremists”. I don’t understand how supporting the true values of this country like freedom of speech and securing the border and protecting women’s sports from men and the Electoral College and the Second Amendment and election integrity and school choice and parental rights, like Trump and his supporters and other common sense minded people in the United States and globally makes them “extremists”. Because there’s nothing “extremist” about that. I mean, everybody should know that you cannot have a country without a border. A secured border especially. Everyone knows that……… except the radical left. I think that the radical left actually does know that, they just don’t care. They should. It’s ridiculous to assume that having open borders and not secured borders like countries are supposed to have, but having open borders is a good thing. Having open borders is not a good thing. That means you don’t really have a country. In order to have a country, you must have a secured border. It’s common sense. It’s smart. I can’t rap around my mind of how the radical left including figures like Biden and Michelle Lujan Grisham and those guys can’t grasp the concept that having secured borders is actually a good thing and how it actually protects the safety of the citizens in those countries or states. They can’t grasp that concept. But, Trump can. His administration can. And other common sense minded people in the United States and across the globe who are just like him can. Why else do you think that in the last four months or so, that the percentage of illegals coming into this country the United States has dropped drastically? In the last four months or so since Trump’s been in office? Why do you think that is? I’ll tell you why. Because he actually knows how to secure a border and he actually knows how to deport and detain violent illegals back to where they came from and actually knows how to ensure the safety of the American people, and so does other leaders like him across the globe. Trump has done more for the United States in 3-4 months than Biden-Harris ever did in 4 years. That’s just the truth. And other leaders like him are the same way. Sam Bregman can say that Trump’s side are “extremists” until his face turns blue(hopefully not literally). But the fact of the matter is, Trump and his administration have done more for the United States of America in 3-4 months than the last administration ever did in 4 years, and it’s the same way in other countries with others like him. And Bregman wonders why his side has the lowest approval rating in the United States and maybe even across the globe, arguably in years if not decades and why the trust in his side are at all time lows. And just the fact that his side, Bregman’s side, as well as Deb Haaland’s side, continue to whine and complain about the good things that Trump’s side are doing for the United States and for the world, is only going to make it worse for Bregman’s and Haaland’s side, including causing they’re approval rating and trust amongst the common citizen in the United States and globally to fall even further. There’s a reason why there are now more Republicans than Democrats in the United States for the first time in decades and why they are more conservatives or common sense minded people across the globe probably for the first time in decades as well, including the United States. And it has everything to do with the radical policies that today’s radical left including the Democratic Party of today as well as other left-wing political parties of today like them have shoved down our throats. What can I say? It’s the Democratic Party’s own fault and the fault of the other leftist political parties across the globe that they’re approval ratings and popularity has almost collapsed. Sorry, but not sorry. They brought that up on themselves. They reap what they sow. I’m not the kind of person who wants to kill these leftist figures or anything like that. But still, they reap what they sow and they have brought they’re declining popularity and trust up on themselves. And they know it.

Believe me, thought has crossed my mind, but I’m not giving up on home. The GOP has some great people willing to stand up and a new party board. Hopefully, not as extremely sad as when it was controlled by Pearce. I’m giving them a chance. I have a bit of hope. For now.
But what about Lt. Gov. Howie Morales? I can’t believe he is not going to run to succeed MLG. I have heard, however, that he has his eyes on becoming the next president of Western New Mexico University located in his hometown of Silver City.

Bregman will likely win the Democrat nomination and it is doubtful that any Republican candidate would be able to beat him. The ignorance of Democrat voters is only surpassed by their hatred of conservative values and the Constitution, and their desire to kill unborn children.

By the grace of God, NM will find a good candidate either Republican or Independent. I will keep praying for New Mexico , people need to wake up and realize we are in a sinking ship and they need to vote out these ungodly liars, the Democrats that will for sure pull the plug and the state will plunge further into the abyss.
