NY Times skewers Lujan Grisham for her epic failures on stopping crime

Far-left Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s tenure has become a political lightning rod, sparking criticism from both Republicans and members of her own Democratic Party. As reported by The New York Times, the state faces severe challenges, including a violent crime rate double the national average and a homelessness crisis spiraling out of control. Critics argue that Lujan Grisham’s leadership has failed to deliver meaningful solutions, instead amplifying the state’s issues and alienating her political allies.

“More violent crime went unsolved in New Mexico in 2023 than in any other state,” according to Times, citing data from the Council of State Governments Justice Center. This alarming statistic highlights the inadequacies of the state’s criminal justice system, which remains overwhelmed by skyrocketing crime rates and insufficient resources. Lujan Grisham’s attempts to address these issues, such as a proposed gun ban in Albuquerque, have only exacerbated tensions. Even New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez, a Democrat, opposed the gun ban, underscoring her growing isolation within her party.

While the report acknowledges that Lujan Grisham is “trying to strike a balance between a liberal and a pragmatic approach,” it bluntly notes that “she hasn’t always succeeded.” Her policies have drawn criticism from progressives like Las Cruces City Councilor Johana Bencomo, who condemned the governor’s approach to crime and homelessness, stating, “We are going back to policies we know do not work.” Meanwhile, Republicans have seized the opportunity to amplify these failures, framing them as emblematic of broader Democrat mismanagement.

The article also reveals the human toll of New Mexico’s unchecked crime crisis. It recounts the harrowing murder of police officer Jonah Hernandez in Las Cruces, killed by a mentally ill individual with a history of violent behavior.

The incident underscores the inadequacies of the state’s mental health system, which remains in disarray despite the governor’s rhetoric about reform. “More mental health resources” are desperately needed, according to critics, who argue that Lujan Grisham’s solutions are insufficient for the scale of the crisis.

Even Democrat lawmakers are growing frustrated. When Lujan Grisham called a special legislative session to push her crime-related proposals, it ended in less than a day, with lawmakers refusing to back her measures. Undeterred, she has resorted to public town halls to gain grassroots support, but her rhetoric often seems more performative than productive.

“Ms. Lujan Grisham said she had been approached by a man with a machete on the sidewalk outside a business in Albuquerque, even with her security detail present,” the Times reported — an unverified and likely false account by the governor that she has used to garner sympathy.

As New Mexico struggles under the weight of unsolved crime, rampant homelessness, and systemic failures, Lujan Grisham’s leadership appears to have galvanized her opponents while splintering her support base. The New York Timesarticle paints a damning portrait of a governor whose ambitions and policies are increasingly out of sync with the realities faced by her constituents.

    1. If you look at the map the only real blue areas are Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces, large metropolitan areas, the rest of the state is deep red

    2. You are so right. Why I don’t understand except that for over 100 years voters here seem to automatically pull the Democrat lever. Sad. New Mexico has so many natural resourses and beautiful landscape. New Mexico needs to elect a new governor in 2926 that will champion our people. No more progressive democrats. 😖

    3. And that continues to be beyond my comprehension!
MLG is evil and ungodly. celebrates the murder of thousand babies in the womb… Until the radical democrats/comrades of MLG are removed from office NM will continue to be under a dark cloud.
      Praying for Gods mercy.

      1. Plus she receives communion.that is a sin in itself. What is also sinful is the priest who gives her the rites. May they both burn in hell.

  1. Well those that voted for her, Timmy, and the rest of far left candidates and judges are to blame, I hold them equally responsible, they were informed and forewarned. This should come as no surprise, some Republican reps tried to impeach her to no avail, MLG and her ilk all need to be recalled, time for action.

  2. She is a total shame to NM. I don’t think she was really voted in I think she is there by voter fraud. She is ruining NM and needs to be impeached ASAP. A TOTAL DISGRACE

    1. Yes, that would be good, however the roundhouse is ruled by her comrades…. Until people stand up and vote these people out of office….

  3. MLG was a failure before she was (s) elected governor. If you recall her failure during the Richardson administration in a cabinet position. The problem is that America ceased being a meritocracy and political correctness, feminism, DEI, and other communist propaganda allows bureaucrats and elected officials to fail upwards. We’re constantly recycling the worst that our communities have to offer.! NM doesn’t provide for recall procedures, that must change. Citizens ability to remove corrupt incompetent officials could have fixed this festering problem.

  4. We do not know if our state is red or blue as we have the Dominion system and no identification needed to vote. Although it seems Santa Fe has attracted the liberals to move here.

  5. The SOS Oliver, AG Torrez and GOV Grisham have ALL been on the Soros payroll. Soros’ goal is to destroy American I read.

Torrez was the reason for the Soros “catch and release” policy being implemented during his terms as DA which caused ABQ to become the 20th most violent city IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.

ALL of them need to be removed from office. When you have people coming forward to call NM out as the most corrupt state in the country, it’s time for change!

    Here is one:

“New Mexico is the Capitol of Corruption of the United States. I have never seen anything like it in all of my years at the FBI. Corruption is pervasive at every level of government.”

    FBI SAC Thomas C. McClenaghan
    ABQ Field Office
KRQE interview on Jan. 20, 2009

Our elections have been rigged for decades! Forensic audits should be done for the 2020, 2022, and 2024 elections. Let the people see!

  6. We all agree that MLG is the worst of the worst, what I don’t understand is why the rest of the registered voters can see what an embarrassment she is to our State..she’s in office 2026..until then we need to educate the voters not to make the same mistake by voting another democratic in office.

I truly feel her own party doesn’t care much for her leadership except for her close minions. I do remember the debacle between Richardson and MLG..He gave her a choice…be fired or resign…she resigned to save her reputation…Do we have a Republican who’s willing to put forth the effort and cost plus time to run for governor ?I saw how hard Nella campaigned only to lose to a loser.. the campaign ads were disgusting, deplorable and dishonest.

    1. NM has zero conservative representatives in D.C. Nella Domenici and Yvette Herrell both lost to radical leftists. The future for NM doesn’t look good.

  7. When Soros & the drug cartel pad your pocket, you don’t care what happens in your state. Because she’s being funded to cause chaos, lawlessness, division, stupidity. And I fully believe NM flipped Red with this election in November but Maggie TooLousy cheated & manipulated the votes w/Dominion. She’s about as honest as Satan. I personally know several Dems who voted for Trump . I also know a state senator who is Dem that voted for Trump as did half of his Dem family.

  8. She whines about insufficient funds, while spending 10 MILLION$ on the ABORTION MILL, funding abortions and pharmaceuticals for out of state women to murder their babies.
