On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, that would require medical care for babies born alive after a failed abortion attempt. All three of New Mexico’s U.S. House representatives, Reps. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM-01), Gabe Vasquez (D-NM-02), and Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM-03) voted against the commonsense bill.
Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) voted for the bill, while Rep. Vicente Gonzales (D-TX) voted “present.”
Leger Fernandez released a video defending her “no” vote after the bill’s passage, saying, “I am wearing white today as the color of resistance here in Congress by us women who are saying ‘no’ to the extreme Republicans’ bills that they have brought forth that would criminalize — that would criminalize a woman’s decisions that they would make about their own bodies. And in this case, about a baby that may be born and does not have a baby.”
She erroneously claimed, “They would wrench that baby from their parents and force them to take ‘em to a hospital and spend their last minutes, their last hours hooked up to a machine rather than in the arms of the mother who loved that child.”
Leger Fernandez added, “And that’s why I voted no today on the Parental Interference Act, which they are calling something else, but it is not.”
Instead of telling the truth about the bill, which is regarding aborted children, Democrats for years have been claiming are not actually human but “clumps of cells.” By Fernandez’s own admission, they are indeed “babies,” and it is strange she now claims the mother who is aborting the child now “loves” them.
Also, there are many abortion survivors who did live through botched abortions and are perfectly healthy, functioning members of society. In many cases, these babies born alive are very much viable babies who can live successfully outside of the womb. The bill would have merely given these babies a chance at life.
However, Leger Fernandez and other democrats are calling the bill “interference.” She is a supporter of abortion up to and after birth, with endorsements from the likes of the pro-abortion groups EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood, and NARAL.

If a child from a wanted pregnancy is born early, all attempts are made to keep that child alive. That is in every hospital in this country. Now let’s talk factually about abortion. VERY FEW abortions are done late in a pregnancy, and those that are are done for medical reasons. In other words, that child is likely not viable or has deformities incompatible with quality of life. No woman is going to decide 30-40 weeks into a pregnancy that she doesn’t want to be pregnant! Those decisions are made much, much earlier, before 20 weeks. 20 weeks is generally the cut-off to where a fetus can survive early birth, which is why some states have the laws they do. Part of a late stage abortion involves stopping the fetus’s heart – they aren’t “born alive.” Should a baby “survive” an abortion in spite of how they are done, then yes, every attempt should be made to save that life. There are plenty of people who will step up to adopt an unwanted infant. I can speak from the experience of a Presbyterian nurse that I know who has said that, yes, there have been cases where fetuses have survived abortions — the mother miscarried before the actual process could happen – and yes, currently they are told to cover that fetus and leave it in a room to die. That shouldn’t be happening, period.
If you think women won’t decide to abort a child after 20 weeks, here is data to the contrary.

A new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that in 2018, an estimated 50,000 abortions were committed at 14 weeks or later, with nearly 6,200 of those committed at or over 21 weeks — the point at which some premature babies have survived with assistance. The report also showed that the number of later abortions increased by four percent from just two years prior (2016). In 2017, the Guttmacher Institute, which publishes more comprehensive abortion totals, reported an estimated 100,000 later abortions that year. In 2020, over 11,000 abortions were performed after 21 weeks. Women in their 20’s account for over 50% of all abortions and few are for medical reasons.

Bottom Line: “A person’s a person no matter how small.” It’s pretty simple and shouldn’t be made a complicated issue just because you want life to be exactly as you think it should be, or you have some kind of evil political agenda. You didn’t create life. God did. It doesn’t belong to you.
For those who say “kill the baby if you don’t want it”: good luck when you get old because your message is to kill anyone who is helpless and needs love and care, because you are selfish and don’t deem them worthy of life. How evil.
So democraps, when is a baby officially a person, 2-3 months, 2-3 years? Just asking. If I shot a woman that was pregnant and both the clump of flesh and the woman died would I be tried with two murders or just one? Just asking. I am feeling that if someone wants to clump of flesh it is a baby, a human, if they do not want the clump of flesh, it stays a clump of flesh regardless if it is alive and breathing outside air. Leger Fernandez now wants aborted babies who survive the abortion returned to their loving mothers who had signed and agreed to their execution.
